Other than Abbrederis, Wisconsin's receivers are not particularly speedy. Enter Melvin Gordon running the jet sweep. Instead of making Gordon ride the pine waiting for White and Ball to depart, they decided to put their fastest, most athletic guys on the field all at the same time. The result was that when Nebraska stacked the middle, Melvin got the ball on the sweep. When Nebraska spread out to try and stop that, they ran it up the gut.
I've not been a huge fan of the "barge" formation with nine linemen, a fullback and White taking the direct snap. But the touchdown out of the barge with the handoff to Ball was maybe the best play of the season. Wisconsin's running backs have speed, quickness AND toughness and will get to the end zone, especially Ball.
That game was too much fun to watch, especially if you love to see Bo Pelini fume.
