The practice of head coaches changing jobs before the glorious, final game stinks to low heaven. The coach spends the whole year building a team-first concept, players sacrifice in many ways and build their lives around the great cause. I'm not being critical, it is fun to be on a journey with teammates.
Think of all the players and coaches ending media interviews with the BB-inspired catchphrase, "On Wisconsin."
Part of the fun of being a fan is believing in the uu-rah-rah, go State! spirit. Maybe we know it's a bit artificial, but we don't want the mythology shattered, like Lucy pulling away the football.
All this said, I hardly blame BB. He didn't invent the system. Hiring schools demand that the new coach gets started on recruiting in December. Only legendary coaches can fight it, and BB is no legend, he's a rising young coach.
Oh ya, the fans who think BB was not a good coach are foolish.
