Here's how it breaks down:

... Alvarez will be paid 90 percent of Bielema’s monthly coaching salary ($195,000) plus 10 percent of his current salary as AD ($8,500) for a total of $203,500 for the month of December.

That translates to a one-time increase of $118,500, which will be paid out of the $1 million buyout UW will receive from Arkansas for Bielema’s contract.

Athlon released its list of most desirable college football coaching jobs. Wisconsin comes in at #26, Arkansas #28. I found this interesting...

Final Verdict: Arkansas is quite similar to several of the non-elite coaching positions in the SEC. It’s a good job, but it’s not a destination job for a coach with national title aspirations

The Big Ten had 22 players taken in the draft, the S.E.C. had 63.

Of the top 100 picks, every third player came from the S.E.C.

Travis Frederick was the only Big Ten player taken in the first round. The S.E.C. had 12 first rounders.

Yes, I think Bielema has taken a step up to the major leagues of college football.

ps. 51,000 AK fans showed up for spring scrimmage.

Oates piles-on with more indicators of how low Big 10 football has sunk.

Only dumb drafting by Jerry Jones kept the Big Ten from being shut-out in first round of draft for the first time since 1953.

"Indeed, this is more than a temporary image problem for the Big Ten, this is a crisis. The SEC has won seven consecutive national championships while the Big Ten hasn’t won one since 1997. Worse, the gap is widening."

Oates thinks the recruiting upgrade of Big 10 basketball can be repeated in football. Maybe, but the huge roster size of football makes it far more difficult to make a sea change in talent.

Tee hee hee. Arkansas got spanked today by the S.C. Gamecocks 52-7. Fifty-fucking-two to seven. Arkansas is 0-3 in the SEC. Their 3 wins to start the season: Louisiana Layfayette, Southern Miss, and Samford. Excuse me, "Who the hell is Samford? I wonder if buyer's remorse is surfacing in the Ozarks.

I doubt it, because he's working with players who were recruited by someone else. If he's still getting results like this 2 years from now, then he'll be on the hot seat.

From the post game interview:
"I grew up on a farm," Bielema continued. "You didn't want certain animals to taste blood because once they taste blood you have got to kill them, because they will keep coming back for it.

He's figured it out. Next year before each game, Bret will make them taste blood.

Having a bit of trouble letting go, Henry? Arkansas' crappy season in no way makes up for the Badgers crappy result against the Buggerers.

#Karma

The decline of Bielema's reputation is a wholesale transformation from the public perception of him while he was at Wisconsin, where he was indisputably cocky but largely noncontroversial.
