Larry is just freaking out because the latest from Intrade suggests that Obama has a 61% chance of re-election. This isn't some poll that Larry would choose to ignore if it didn't fit his needs, this is a perfect example of people putting their money where their mouths are, in a free market. Larry is apoplectic today, let's give him a break.

Re Kennedy Godfather and Wisconsin hometown boy Joe McCarthy:

Didn't he turn out to be right? Didn't virtually every one of the people he accused of taking money from the Soviets later turn out to have done so?

The FBI et al knew most of this at the time from the extremely top secret Venona transcripts. They were not public until the 90's. After the fall of the Soviet Union, we got other info confirming them.

So you are OK with people on the Soviet payroll working with the most secret and sensitive info the US had at the time?

My, my, there really is something in the water here in Madison. Not good, either. I think I will stick to out of state bottled water.

FWIW, McCarthy, Kennedy, Cohn & Co were right at the time. They, other than St Bobby of course, have gotten a bad rap.

It is time to honor them for their efforts.

So Meade, does your slipper slope theory mean that Teddy Roosevelt and Robert "Fighting Bob" LaFollette were both only one step away from being commies? And I though they were Republicans.

Socialism for me(ade) but not for thee...

"Lawrence Meade might be one of the most non-self-sufficient people living today who claims to be a libertarian. He is living high on the hog off the taxpayers of the State of Wisconsin. His wife Ann Althouse has been abusing her tenure at UW law school for years. She has not published any scholarship in almost a decade but is instead getting paid by the taxpayers of Wisconsin $160,000.00 to sit in her pajamas and write blog entries about American Idol and other such nonsense. Meade does not work but instead is living a life of leisure and enjoying the fruits of his wife's tenure abuse at the considerable expense to the Wisconsin taxpayers. What a couple of phonies."

Meade is the original "stay at home mom". Except instead of taking care of 5 kids and driving his cadillacs around, he posts nonsence on the internet about the entitlement society and tells the ol professer how great she is.

And we taxpayers pay her to support him. Is this a great country or what?

Both are opposed to free market capitalism.

False

Progressivism is really the same thing as socialism

False

Isn't communism the ultimate goal?

No.

But the Congressional Progressive Caucus is working on it

No they aren't.

You're not doing so well today. You barely got anything right. Do you have anything to add beyond character assassination and lies?

If West really meant the Progressive Caucus is membership a secret? Why couldn't he name names if that's what he meant? I can Google it it's no secret club. West, like you, is lying to backtrack his asinine statement.

Well there you have it, the ultimate leftist 'fisking ' of Mead's post by fisticuffs wherein the cited authority bolstering his 'argument' turns out to be, well, only himself. Fisticuff's last paragraph decrying the possible mislabeling of a political foe is rich. Where was Fisty when Debbie Downer (Wassermann-Schultz) purposely mislabeled the GOP's concerns about religious freedom, in relation to Obamacare mandates, as a "War on Women"? Crickets I suspect.

Then there is this classic bit of leftist snideness quoted by Phil:

Whoever the author, he/she has managed a synthesis of non sequitur and ad hominem in one small paragraph. Quite a feat I would say! However, how is any of this an argument against Meade's position on socialism being the gateway drug to Communism? Reminds me of the tired old statist trick wherein anybody seeking to pare back the state by fixing Social Security is simply labeled a hypocrite when, after 45 years or so of paying FICA taxes, he dares to collect it.

Back to the topic Ned. Do you agree with Meade and also claim that people like TR and Fighting Bob were just one step away from being commies?

Of course not Ned. Just those who game the system like Ann Althouse and her hubby Meade.
