What is the the actual "track record" of "percolate up"?

And if letting expire the Bush tax cuts on those with incomes over $250K would be beneficial to the economy, why not let the tax cuts expire on those with incomes under $250K?

Over $250K, under Obama's expiration plan, my bracket goes from 33% to 36%, right? So out of that $250K, I pocket $160K.

But if I can manage to keep my taxable earnings under $250K, my bracket stays at 28% and I pocket $180K.

And if I can just get my earnings down under $85K, I can get into the 25% bracket, spend a lot less time working and lot more time surfing and riding my bike, and still pocket $64K.

You could have told us what you make in far fewer words, big shot.

I have never, and likely will never, have to worry about such things.
However, doesn't the applicable rate apply ONLY to the income in excess of the bracket cutoff, not the entire 250,000 (or 249,999.99)?

Not that I'd expect the whole truth from Larry, but it seems his "example" may be misleading, to say the least.

Is Larry just a "liar telling a big lie"?

jman111, you are correct. I was stupidly not thinking of them as marginal tax rates. I could use the help of a good CPA. No wonder I'm so impoverished.

$64K makes me a big shot? Well. You could have told us how little you make in far fewer words, lil' guy.

Jman is correct regarding marginal rates.

You also want to take out for the standard deduction (for simplicity) and any dependents.

I don't have the slightest idea what all these numbers have to do with "percolating up," though.

The discussion of letting the Bush tax cuts on higher income taxpayers expire was about balancing the budget (or getting closer to balancing it) by enhancing revenues. That would help reduce the growth of the national debt.

So when zerobams had a democrat majority in congress in his first two years, he 'forgot' what he "promised"?

Maybe he and moochelle should try and spend more time doing "the people's business" and less time on all their vacations?

You need to remember that the New Democrat Party is all about fraud, lying, and of course the Chicago Democrat Machine way of voter fraud.

The Internal Revenue Service allowed undocumented workers to collect $4.2 billion in refundable tax credits last year, a new audit says, almost quadruple the sum five years ago.

$4,200,000,000 per year for illegals that may or may not have kids? That's a lot of votes!!! No ID necessary.
New Democrat Party mantra, "Si, se puede"...."Yes we can".
And they "did". And are still doing.

I guess this is what it's like to "do someone".
American, you''ve been done! Didja get a kiss afterwards?
If not, don't worry, you're still being done...."Yes we can"....

Bush, Jr. is still king of vacation days. He broke Ronnie Reagan's record.

The "tax cuts" have been a LAW for a while.
So this is now and has been, 'normal'. Why isn't what's proposed then stated, more accurately, as for what it is, "tax increase"?

That would be reasonable if only spending was also being cut enough to effectively reduce the the national debt. But it isn't.

Also, in 2010, Obama himself explained why he was extending the Bush tax cuts then by saying that his economic advisers told him that letting the tax rates go back up would hurt a recovering economy. We are still in a recovering economy.

So either he was lying then or he's lying now.

8) I think you have given leftists an economic lesson. ;)

So what always happens when socialists/leftists get to be in charge:
1. Figure out how little to work to maximize your after taxes/penalties/fees.
2. Once you get to that magic point of leftist punishment for making money, then shut down your shop, lay off all your employees, don't give any monies to anyone else...and go to martha's vineyard or obama hyde's park for the rest of the year.

There, done. :D

Ned Flanders wrote:The saddest lie was the promise that he was going to unite us all and change the way business was done in Washington. In reality, he ended up bringing the "Chicago Way" to the national stage.

Isn't that sad? So many millions of people have been conned by this socialist shyster--he truly is flat affect when it comes to other people. It's all about using us for his ends. We are disposable....but such has historically been the case with all of his ilk.

Which is what everyone with a brain knew he was going to do.

To be fair, most people don't follow the details of politics that conservatives do (and the tiny minority leftists), so most of those that voted for him, sadly, were conned.

Think about it--why does barack almost always read his teleprompter readings surrounded by kids/college kids? They are the most gullible.

But as I've always said, 'feel privileged in with a clear mind being able to witness this historic event'. A conjob, but none the less, a truly historic conjob.

Why yes, we have the obama years fantastic record to prove it.

I'm always leery of people using economic numbers in history to justify/refute something in present. To me, they are just showing how economically illiterate they are.

You missed the part where jman111 (a leftist!?!) corrected the lesson, and Meade politely acknowledged the error.
