Some here may be old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis of 1962. I was 15 at the time and convinced I was going to die in a nuclear exchange.
In the event, it was all politics. The US had some missiles in Turkey aimed at Russia, the Russians wanted them out, and we secretly agreed. But we could not do that without a lot of DRAMA!
It has not gotten a lot of coverage but we have been putting (planning to put? I am not clear exactly where we are here) missiles in Russia's traditional enemy Poland. They won't be aimed at France and Italy.
The Russians are not happy.
So now they are putting naval bases in Cuba.
Are we doing to see the Cuban missile crisis all over again?
