CNN Fact Checks Convention

Postby Sandi » Wed Sep 05, 2012 12:48 pm

What about the often repeated claim at the convention that the Obama Administration created 4.5 million jobs? Technically it is true, but as my grandmother used to say "figures don't lie, but liars figure." If I buy a car in the morning for $10,000, then sell it for $2,000 in the afternoon, did I make $2,000 dollars? Of course not, the only important figure is the net.

CNN Fact Check: About those 4.5 million jobs ...

So as long as you count jobs created, since the end of the downturn, and don't count the jobs lost before that low, you are basically not county jobs lost. That way you do in fact come up with 4.5 million jobs created. But they don't tell you they didn't count the massive losses.

However it is only a net gain of about 300,000 jobs.

Can't wait until some other fact checker refutes this. And then someone refutes that fact checker. Then the spin machine goes into effect.

Ugh, I can't wait for this to be over.

“Fact checkers come to this with their own sets of thoughts and beliefs, and we’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers”
Romney pollster Neil Newhouse

Oh wait. We're going after the other guy? Well, full speed ahead! Check them facts. With your sets of "thoughts" and your "beliefs."

I put no more stock in these that the other, or any other fact check links.

They are posted primarily as a starting point for discussion, not flaming. Have at it ( or me if you must *grin* ).

Probably, unless he miraculously decides to work with congress to lower spending.

Obama isn't a bad guy, I sort of like him. However outside of politics he is more or less just a highly trained social worker. Therefore I expect mostly social programs to be his main concern and what he will ask for.

Which of course cost taxpayers a lot of money. I'm not sure either party is overly worried about debt reduction, but am inclined to lean towards the R's as the lesser of the two evil spenders.

HA! Clearly you missed the countless times he has only to be stabbed in the back by the Teahadists who only want to see him fail. Obama offered a deal on the debt ceiling that was something like 40 to 1 spending cuts/closing tax loopholes and the Republicans told him to fuck himself.

but am inclined to lean towards the R's as the lesser of the two evil spenders.

Good to see the propaganda money was well spent.

I personally think we all ought to be thinking of short term solutions. Education, infrastructure, poverty, crime, all of those things cost money to keep going.

We ought to be thinking the way our forefathers intended. Representation without taxation, outlaw all abortions, and Holy Mother Church has the final word in all legal matters.

You've got that exactly opposite of reality.

Bah. What a load of propaganda, beanie. Next your going to tell me that Bush added more employees to the federal payroll and deported fewer illegal immigrants!

Everyone knows that Republicans are all about reducing spending and deporting illegal immigrants. I heard it on Fox!

fisticuffs,

No matter what side of an issue I am on, nouns like teahadists, lefties, righties, coolaid drinkers only encourage me to stop reading and roll my eyes. Attempting to increase the value of a post with the use of cutting nouns reduces the effectiveness of the posters thoughts.

Completely, factually incorrect.
