Yes, it's a major disruption for some of us. It's also a great opportunity, especially for the students, and most especially for international students. Our students will get to see, among other things, the incredible security apparatus that cocoons the President, which is a useful lesson for them about the realities of politics outside the rhetoric of campaigns and the vague discussion of policy. As for international students--well, what do you think the chances are of a citizen of the PRC, or South Korea, or Indonesia, seeing their own head of state? For them it's a demonstration of the relative openness of US politics and government.

Some disruptions are worth having. I think this is one. Besides, those of us who work and study around Bascom Hill are not being forced to attend, nor are we being docked pay for the time we're forced to be there. The Romney camp might think about that before they stage their next campaign event.

Agreed, I don't care who it is. There's an electricity in the air and just a sense of power, but in a good way. I like to try and catch a view of AF1 coming in. I'm not going to see him,it's not my thing, but I think it's good for the city.

When Ryan came to town a couple weeks ago for a private fundraiser, traffic was impeded on Northport and Hwy M. They were very secretive too about where he was going, no news coverage at all beyond the words "private fundraiser". It was at Jay Smith's house on Lake Mendota, the huge lawn next to Bishops Bay CC. What a shock.

Tooled! I love it!

The moms knocking on doors in suburban Milwaukee because they're concerned about the war on reproductive rights are also apparently "tooled" in the opinion of our moderate friend.

Same goes for the poor saps registering voters and writing checks and putting up yard signs, right? Unwitting sheeple! Mindless drones! Sold a bill of goods!

But those sign carriers heeding the call of talk radio, chanting slogans and applauding on command at the Koch Bro-financed Tea Party Express bus tour? Why, those good folks are committed, non-partisan patriots fighting to regain control of their country.

Yes, most of them are.

And I imagine some of them may be tools too. Just like all those students being tooled by the Obama campaign and the UW.

Funny - Jason said "drones".

Funny, you said something that was dumb bullshit. By the way, you never answered my questions.

We're not the only city that has to pay for Obama's, and Romney, and Ryan's, and Biden's protection.

Remember how Obama said he would put on his protesting shoes and come to Madison to march in solidarity with the Uprising?

So yeah - tools.

Gates open at noon. When will Obama speak, 4 or 5pm? It's going to be a long wait to hear the exalted one.

Errh? Couldn't similar be said about our congress that checked out a week or so ago leaving some egregious dangling ends?

To Dan's question; no I do not think I will make it down there.

Will the staff from the closed bldngs go somewhere else to work? Or will they get a paid day off?

Are the fainting stations in place yet?

And Meade's right. He's a little late.

You are a member of the Teleprompter Patrol, Ned, fainting stations are not your concern.

I think a feather and a bucket are preferred gear for an Obama speech.

Have the pillars arrived from Denver yet?

I don't think Meade understands what a tool is. You can't be a tool and get tooled at the same time. You can't hammer a hammer or screw a screwdriver, for example. You can't ply a pliers.

You can feed a troll, however, and I guess that's what I'm doing here.
