Clinton was hospitalized this weekend in New York for treatment with anti-coagulants following discovery of a blood clot. It's not clear whether this was an effect of the fall and concussion she experienced recently. Depending on the circumstances, a clot could be fairly minor or extremely serious.
I haven't yet seen any apologies or retractions from the various right-wing bloggers and pundits who accused her of faking the concussion, and who reported gleefully that Ms. Clinton was spending the holidays drinking and partying in the Dominican Republic. (Here's one typically noxious example
, from one alleged Professor Glenn Reynolds.)
I suppose the logical next step would be for Reynolds et al. to accuse her of faking the blood clot. If things go badly for Ms Clinton -- and there are many possible bad outcomes, particularly at her age -- we all know where this will end. The denizens of the right-wing fever swamps will have a feeding frenzy with conspiracy theories. President Obama somehow arranged this to silence Hillary and prevent her from testifying about ... whatever. His birth certificate, Benghazi, Vince Foster. The possibilities are endless.
One idiot here on the Forum suggested not long ago that President Obama might have ordered his minions to stage the Sandy Hook school massacre as a "false flag operation" to enable him to seize power. Compared to that, spinning conspiracy theories about a Clinton stroke/coma/death would be downright simple.
For Ms Clinton's own sake, I hope she has a speedy recovery. For the country's sake, I hope the same thing.
