Note regular usage of innuendo-questions, protecting the writer against charges of actually saying anything that can be proven or disproven.

IRS higher-ups requested info on conservative groups, letters show

Additional scrutiny of conservative organizations’ activities by the IRS did not solely originate in the agency’s Cincinnati office, with requests for information coming from other offices and often bearing the signatures of higher-ups at the agency, according to attorneys representing some of the targeted groups. At least one letter requesting information about one of the groups bears the signature of Lois Lerner, the suspended director of the IRS Exempt Organizations department in Washington.

Jay Sekulow, an attorney representing 27 conservative political advocacy organizations that applied to the Internal Revenue Service for tax-exempt status, provided some of the letters to NBC News. He said the groups’ contacts with the IRS prove that the practices went beyond a few “front line” employees in the Cincinnati office, as the IRS has maintained.

Lerner’s signature, which appeared to be a stamp rather than an actual signature...

So rather than low level IRS agents using a list to arbitrarily select targets for deeper reviews there were higher level agents deciding which groups might not qualify based on their activities? Are you insinuating that the IRS might have been doing its job correctly Ned, because that does seem to be the implication.

An attorney for conservative groups is making claims, Lois Lerner is stamped on forms... and still nobody has lost anything, no crimes have been committed and conservative groups were less targeted than non-conservative groups.

Still no harm, still no foul.

I have dealt with the IRS for over 17 years now.

I have rarely seen any real signatures. It's all stamps and form letters until you get the "We are auditing you letter." Then you get a real signature and soon a visit from the person assigned to your case.

IRS stamps mean very little. I am sure that the stamp is for the person in charge of the office and I guarantee that that person didn't read my correspondence. It was dealt with by someone else in the office, stamped and sent.

Kind of like when you write or e-mail your representative. You get a signature on the letter but I am guessing the vast majority are done by staffers or someone else in the office.

Twenty-five conservative and Tea Party groups have filed suit against the Internal Revenue Service, Attorney General Eric Holder and top IRS officials, alleging that the Obama administration unlawfully targeted the groups because of their political beliefs and obstructed their applications for tax-exempt status.

Tea Party groups sue IRS, Obama administration

YES!!!

Finally, someone will have to look at the law. It's going to be difficult for a judge to ignore. Hard to imagine the case won't be tossed immediately and the lead attorney sanctioned for wasting the nation's time.

Ah, but then the screamers get to claim the courts are crooked.

Except the Supreme Court, of course. That's their friend.

moving forward any conservative who gets audited is a victim of Obama misuse of the IRS. Gibson, Michelle Bachmann, you name it! It's really a great system they've set up. Even if you get caught breaking the law you get the benefit of using it for political attacks.

Huckleby wrote:If Obama inspired IRS employees to target the Tea Party, why did the practice only occur in Cincinnati?

We now know it occurred at more than just Cincinnati:
Among the letters were several that bore return IRS addresses other than Cincinnati, including "Department of the Treasury / Internal Revenue Service / Washington, D.C.," and the signatures of IRS officials higher up the chain. Two letters with "Department of the Treasury / Internal Revenue Service / Washington, D.C." letterhead were signed by "Tax Law Specialist(s)" from Exempt Organizations Technical Group 1 and Technical Group 2. Lerner’s signature, which appeared to be a stamp rather than an actual signature, appeared on a letter requesting additional information from the Ohio Liberty Council Corp.

I don't think that stamp means diddly.

I heard on FOX today that the Cincinnati Office was responsible for 100% of the special exemptions cases, or some such phrase. That could explain why all activity in Cincinnati.
