Neddie's just glad it's a Friday afternoon and everyone will forget this over the weekend.

"I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable," Obama said. "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs."

Oh! He's "troubled". Isn't that comforting?

Uh, yeah, it kind of is, along with the statement "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs".

Someone sounds like Darrell Issa who voted against a shield law, yet trashed the Justice Department for investigating who broke the national security law.

You guys really truly just don't know what to think, do you? You are completely under his spell. You chanted "hope" and you chanted "change". But nothing, nothing, has changed. No matter how much you keep hoping. It's pathetic.

You should be put on administrative leave.

Remember the nasty, unpalatable, indigestible, pasty stuff the lunch ladies used to dump on your tray in school?

Discussing Krauthammer is like eating that. Most people would just as soon pass. That's why your topic isn't getting a lot of action.

No.

But "lunch ladies" sounds both sexist and classist to my ear. Is it possible you're not as good a person as you think you are?

It doesn't really matter HOW it sounds to your ear. It is an objective fact that in the 50's and 60's school lunches were served up by ladies. That is why we called them lunch ladies.

Is it possible that your ear does not hear as accurately as you think it does?

Of course it is, gar. Still, snowqueen is clearly a closet classist and sexist because - look around, ms. gargantua - does this look like the 50's and 60's?

Personally, I have no problem with a law criminalizing solicitation of classified information, even by journalists. Particularly when they aren't actually journalists but are merely political players anxious to embarrass their opponents by publishing classified information.

If Dan Rather had been accused of soliciting classified information for no other reason than to publish it and cause an international incident, would Republicans be crowing about his First Amendment rights?

What James Rosen did at FoxNews was criminal, there's no doubt in my mind. He was acting more like a spy than a journalist, and even lied in his report by claiming that the information came from a North Korean informant. Did North Korea torture or kill anyone when they went looking for the fake leak? Were actual spies in North Korea perhaps in danger of being exposed? Does anyone actually know why James Rosen was seeking relatively mundane classified information in the first place?

Personally, I think the days of affording reporters additional protection against charges of things like libel are numbered. Very few journalists in today's sensationalist media culture have anything to do with real journalism anyway. They aren't selling us information, they're selling us spin, and if anything they should be held to a higher standard. If you're going to jump on the television and claim that someone is building a mosque at Ground Zero, you'd better be able to back up that claim or suffer the legal consequences. Don't hide behind a journalism badge and claim that you were just reporting on a story, because you weren't. You made it up. You lied. You intended to deceive people.

I understand that journalists sometimes make mistakes, but if you're intentionally making a mistake, it's not a mistake.

Okay, I'll put you down as PRO Eric Holder and ANTI FOX News and Associated Press, Peej. Is that right?

Thanks.

I understand that the currency involved is not moving from Meade to the landlords of any heads, but he damn sure is expending one hell of a lot of effort for whatever prize his own head sees.

I wouldn't, and I don't think many would. If any crowing would be done, it would be at the one solicited, if they coughed up the classified information.

He's the Lunch Man, serving up pasty undigestible lumps of lunch, and we all know lunch men are paid for by state funding.

He's getting free rent, meanwhile, from the forum administrators.

Dang socialists.

In order for this to be on topic, I should add today's lunch is krauthammer, kielbasa, and mashed potatoes.

(That was a Thursday standard menu when I was in grade school, which makes me wonder at the details of German farming community dining habits.)
