Woops. I was thinking of the wrong set of illegal aliens. My mistake, maybe we shouldn't be thinking of helping to make life tolerable in Mexico.

Now it sounds like "the wall" needs to be modified into...

THE DOME!

The Mexican economy is growing faster than the U.S. economy, I doubt we'll ever see another flood of Mexican immigrants. But of course there will always be poor people somewhere wanting to come.

yes, it's an under-reported story. Mexico is the new Brazil. The drug violence holds GDP a point or two, and it overwhelms the news, but job growth in Mexico is steady. I listen to economists on Charlie Rose show and other places, I'll see if there is a link to an article.

Growth has been lower than expected in 2014. But the long term prospects are very good for Mexico.

The middle class has boomed in Mexico, while it has been squeezed in the U.S. There are still lots of poor people in Mexico, but the swelling middle class is creating demand and jobs.

I really don't see any point in building that dang fence.

We could build it on the Canadian border. That would have the added benefit of having it available for the Canadians to take over when they need one to stop the influx of illegal aliens trying to take their jobs.

Indeed it is. I tried some quick searches on this and really couldn't come up with anything. I don't deny that their economy is improving, but I'm a bit skeptical of the Idaho blog. Their number looked promising, but I think we have a long way to go before immigration isn't a national issue to be addressed with.

Well, I didn't come up with this theory on my own, it's a common analysis. It's a topic involving many issues, you have to listen to boring interviews like this one:

As far as immigration policy, it needs major reform, the lack of Mexican hordes is just one aspect.

Here is an excellent, balanced NY Times article from last fall suggesting that Mexico is already a magnet for immigrants, and that this inflow will accelerate.

Nothing is assured. The drugs and corruption could spoil the chance. I like Mexico's odds.

How rude of you.
I think the politically correct term will be "climate refugees".

Nah. From World Scientific Publishing we need a greater wall than than that (by far) 300 meter, or 984 feet high. It would break up flow patterns in the Midwest that cause tornados.

Riiight!!!! Must be the same scientific circles that build and trust climate models.

Obama to take unilateral action to "fix" crisis created by... himself...

Obama pursuing executive actions on immigration, after House effort stalls

President Obama vowed Monday to bypass Congress and pursue unilateral changes to the country's immigration system, after he says the House failed to act on a comprehensive overhaul.

The president, speaking in the Rose Garden, said Speaker John Boehner informed him last week the House will not vote on an immigration bill this year.

"America cannot wait forever for them to act," Obama said. He said he's launching a new effort to "fix as much of our immigration system as I can, on my own, without Congress."

Ned, you have previously agreed with me that immigration reform has been stalled by an obstructionist Congress and that something must be done. Obama also agrees with that and is trying to do something.

But the Tea Party overrules the GOP majority in the House, so nothing is being done.

And yet you blame Obama. How predictable.

Fucking hypocrite. You never said a peep when the Bush/Cheney administration issued many more "executive actions" when they were in power.
