I knew that online interactions were (I feel) negatively influencing written language by making spelling errors, cutesy abbreviations and a generally lackadaisical attitude about grammar perfectly acceptable, but is it really too much to ask that people not speak in Instant Messenger, too?
I was directed to this YouTube video from Atariage.com. You needn't watch it - it's just some geek reviewing what he says is "the shittiest fucking" Atari game ever (which is sheer nonsense, but completely off topic.) What got me was that at some point (1:57, actually) he says (without any hint of actual laughter in his voice) "LOL" as if, you know, it was actually a word. Is this douchebag ahead of the curve or just following the herd by speaking in typing shorthand?
