Gutter experts

Postby christopher_robin » Tue Apr 03, 2007 11:56 am

Team Foron:

Anyone have their gutters done recently and like the work? I am awash in water and possibilities.

I checked out Master Shield and some other high-end solutions that run north of 7k. That seems like too much great guttering for an 1880 farmhouse.

Now I'm just looking for a basic and reliable vendor.

Thanks!

Are you looking to put those covers on or are your gutters just shot and leaking everywhere?

If it's the covers, I'd just pay someone twice a year to clean them out. Stuff almost always gets under those covers and then it's tough to get out. Maybe the really $$ ones block everything, but then again, they're really expensive. Any chance you're going to be re-roofing with a tear-off in the near future. If so, I wouldn't put anything new on first, it'll just get beat up. If it's all new gutters you need, go for seamless by all means. Don't let some schlub put up those plastic menards sectional ones (junk). Spend a little more and get larger sized downspouts, they are much less likely to clog up. Don't have a company recommendation though, sorry.

Check out a city "council" meeting, ask a single mother who works at the COOP about entitlement issues, or read the Capitol Times editorial page some time. You'll find what you're looking for.

Yep - new and seamless with big downspouts, that's what I want. Thanks!

Still looking for a company, no snake eyes(blows on dice)

Had a complete tear off and roof replacement about 15+ years ago. Waunakee Remodeling put on a new roof (some friends of mine and I did the tear out) and WR hired a subcontractor for seamless gutters and spouts. Can't remember their name, but they did a semi-shitty job. Down spouts from the house roof to the front pouch gutter were poorly fitted. So too with the main down spouts; globs of clear silicone caulk impedded water flow. The eaves through was nailed to the facia, some nails weren't even set level and many others popped out in a year or so. Over time, the gutter has sagged so much that water pools.

I have a line of sugar maples on one side of the house, so I have to clean them out two to year times a year. The missus wants me to go with the gutter shields, but I also think they still might clog up. I can still climb a ladder. Oh well, I'll need another roof in the next few years and I'll decide what to get then.

Yes, I have been drinking. An election day tradition.

Well, I think I'll join you.

A Gray's oatmeal stout sounds good.

Cheers

I need new gutters too...let me know what you find out. ;)

For covers, I bought those 3 foot long screens from Menards for a buck a piece and they work fine. pain to put on, but it works. 90 inside angles aren't the best, but...
