Squirrel all up in my fascia

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

Squirrel all up in my fascia

Postby curiouslystrong » Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:31 am

My old house has a guest right now. Poking around the roof to fix some gutters, I notice a fist-sized hole in the fascia. Later that day, I see one of these urban squirrels running in and out probably making himself a nice little love nest.

Going to get the fascia replaced but I want to make sure the squirrel and any of his hussies are out first. Any one recommend a good pest removal outfit or some sure-fire home remedy?

Pour some patchouli next to the hole. That should help.

If it's a red squirrel, get it the hell out of there as soon as you can. Those little bastards do a lot of damage as far as chewing goes. They will actually chew an exit hole a few inches from the entrance hole for no discernible reason.

Greys aren't as bad, but you still don't want em living in your house. You could livetrap them and relocate to a place far, far away.

I had one last year. A website suggested putting a crumpled piece of newspaper in the hole in the morning and wait for him/her to leave. I don't remember the details but at certain times of year they are likely to have infants in there which means that they will tear up your new facia in order to get in there. I did the newspaper thing and it helped b/c even though I was outside doing other work I didn't notice when he left. I sealed it up and all is good. Best of luck!

Somewhat off topic -

One of those long road trip games, perfect for when you've been behind the wheel for so long that you can't even feel the Mountain Dew any more:

Substitute 'squirrel' for 'girl' in the lyrics of popular songs.

"Brown Eyed Squirrel"..."Material Squirrel"..."Squirrel From the North Country"..."The Squirrel From Ipanema"...

It's addictive!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to Hüsker Dü's "The Squirrel Who Lives On Heaven Hill."

Oh God - it's happening again...
