A Question...

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

A Question...

Postby aaron » Thu Nov 01, 2007 1:10 pm

This occurred to me at lunch when I went through my bank's drive-thru: Why is there braille on the keys of the bank's drive-thru? (A rather disturbing thought, really...)

Not disturbing at all. Seeing impaired and blind people use bank services. They are actually allowed to participate in our society and often have care-takers or family members who drive them. Some, undoubtably, use taxi-cabs.

On most automobiles, behind the driver's seat are these things that are referred to as "backseats". Here, you can have someone riding in the automobile that is not operating the automobile. See how that works?

Plus, the ATM manufacturer probably uses the same face plates for drive-up ATMs as for ATMs in the lobby.

Great. Bring backseat drivers into this important discussion...

And some people use the "drive-up window" on foot, especially when the lobby is closed.

Maybe some people just like the challenge of the braille. Some days I'll just close my eyes from the start and see how far I get. Last time I made it for three or four hours, but all of a sudden BAM! and everything just went black. Well, everything was already black, but you catch my drift.

If I was a blind person, the last place I would go would be to an ATM in a drive-thru lane of a bank after hours. I'd be afraid that I accidently put on my "I'm blind and I'm taking money out of my account in a dark drive-thru lane, please don't rob me" t-shirt that day.

What's the point to this thread? I don't see it.

I only wish that was possible.
Neither banks nor fastfood places allow pedestrians in the drive-thru.
