Save a tree, kill the Shopper Stopper!

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

Save a tree, kill the Shopper Stopper!

Postby Dairylander » Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:22 pm

That damn advertising circular has haunted my mailbox for decades and I finally took the time to find out who sends it. Turns out it comes from Madison Newspapers and all I had to do was call them.

So here's their info:
Madison Newspapers Customer Service:
252-6363 then press 5.

Call them up, give them your address, and you too can be free from the incessant mailbox clutter.

We did this a few months ago. Some days, we don't get any mail. And some weeks, we don't need to wheel the recycling bin down the driveway.

There is virtually no paper product on the market that is better than newsprint for washing windows. Free and delivered to your door. And your problem is....?

Yes, but since so many Forons live in their mother's windowless basements, mostly irrelevant.

My problem is then I use more water. Windex and a rag doesn't leave newsprint on your fingers.

I hate those stupid newspapers. If there's one reason I'm glad to live in an apartment complex instead of a private apartment, its the big pile we anonomously leave as a hint to the mailman as to where to leave those shopper magazines. I just take it out of my mailbox and put it in the pile. Come to think of it, I might have started the pile...

I've tried before with a wastebasket next to the mailbox and a sign on the mailbox that says "First Class Mail Only". For the mailman in a bigger city, its bad enough to have to put them in the mailboxes so there's no stopping them. They say you can call them and sign up for the do not deliver list... But they say it might not work.

My mailman was the one that told me where to call.
He said that the mail carriers hate the Shopper Stopper more than we do.

The nice thing is, if the last person living at your apartment (or house) stopped the Shopper Stopper, you inherit the stoppage! It seems to stay stopped.

No doubt! Even a trash hauler can claim value in that they haul garbage away. The poor USPS folks are forced to deliver garbage! Their slogan might be, "Well, it's not as bad as radioactive fallout!"

We have Shopper Stoppers--now in plastic, no less!--littering the streets of McFarland. The once blue now clear plastic bags for the State Journal are bad enough now we have red and white bags clogging our environment--how utterly American (red, white and blue) to be complacent enough to allow this insult.

PLEASE STOP THE SHOPPER STOPPER!!!

On that note, can we kill the phone book deliveries too? I've lived at my address for a little over a month and have received 5 phone books already.

Just called and cancelled it.

Although I did not mind it being delivered to my mailbox as I would occasionally use the paper for something like washing windows, etc. But this new delivery method is untolerable. I first noticed on frequent bike rides around Lake Monona all these bagged papers in the gutters of many houses they started doing the same in my eastside neighborhood. Now they throw bagged papers at the end of every driveway and many wind up in the street. Just what Madison needs - more garbage in the gutters and likely clogging up the sewers.

Please do your part and help stop this crap.
