Advertising For Welfare

Advertising For Welfare

Postby Remember_Me » Fri May 25, 2012 7:20 pm

First it was the free phone and minutes ads courtesy of the Assurance program.

Now I just heard an ad for the food stamp card (Quest?).

Is it just me... or is this advertising of welfare programs something that they've always done?

And why are we advertising welfare programs??

Why advertise? So children who are going hungry or eating poor quality food can have balanced diet.

Many families who are in financial difficulty for the first time don't understand that their children don't have to go hungry. Many families in difficulty may have heard of food stamps and thought that it would be too humiliating to pay with some sort of stamps that are ripped out of a book as in the distant past. The Quest card is used like a debit card.

Recipients of corporate welfare (where the big bucks are) don't have to advertise, instead they like to keep it secret. It's just between well-funded lobbyists and their congressional buddies.

That's a good reason.

So why are we only now advertising it then?

I've seen similar ads before over the last few years---not as many, certainly, as the Walker spots we're seeing.
