Electronic Arts to cut ties with Gun Manufactures

Postby Francis Di Domizio » Wed May 08, 2013 4:22 pm

Financially at least:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/ea- ... s-to-guns/

Licensing rights to video game companies is actually really good money for gun makers espcially when you consider it involves no extra work, and they can set conditions as to how their guns are used. If EA can get this to stand up in court gun makers will effectively have lost the ability to get paid to have their guns advertised in video games.

On the otherhand, EA isn't actually going to stop using those guns in their games, so I'm not sure it's fair to say they are cutting ties with gun makers. The games (which the NRA just claimed are the cause of all the gun violence in this country) will still have the same guns in them. Consumers will still pay the same since EA is unlikely to pass on the savings, and young children who's parents can't be bothered to read the game box will still be able to frag nubs with a real gun with a real name.

On the otherhand, the NRA and it's gun making members who just tossed game makers under the bus will have a bit less money to spend on the things the NRA and gun makers spend money on, so there is that.

edit: Changed title to use full name rather than EA (for clarity)

Frag nubs? What in the fuck are you talking about? Did you mean "pwn noobs?"

To "frag" is to kill your own teammate, so technically the people doing the fragging ARE the noobs, or maybe newbs, which wouldn't be so bad.

And the reason you can't use the word "nub" is because people won't know if you're talking about a noob or a newb, which are completely different things. A "noob" is a stupid jackass that doesn't seem like he's ever going to get any skillz, whereas a "newb" is someone who's new, and therefore their lack of skillz is understandable.

"pwn" is simply an intentional misspelling of "own" and yeah, pwning noobs is way cooler than pwning newbs. And fragging people is rarely cool and can lead to being called a "griefer", the gaming equivalent of a troll.

I hope that helps.

lol you crazy kids,

perhaps you newbies have changed the lexicon since my days playing CS and Quake 3. Back then a frag was a kill, and killing a team mate was a TK though it was still considered griefing if you made a habit of it.

pwn was just coming into regular use when I retired from fps for more sedentary mmorpgs; probably because I was getting pwned by 12 year old newbies.

Just PC (FFXI is on both) as of right now, though probably going to get an XBox 720 when they come out for some kid friendly games. I've done beta testing for several MMOs now, which isn't really all that much different then playing except you try to find stuff wrong rather then just stumbling into stuff that is wrong.

and yeah I am.
