Madison Arcade Changes Hands

Postby MadMind » Fri May 09, 2008 2:11 pm

The one remaining arcade, Namco-owned Cyberstation in Easttowne Mall, has changed hands.
It is now a Tilt.
The name change seems to be about the only thing that's different about the place.

They raised some of the prices and changed the machines from tokens to quarters. I still think if someone should put together a decent arcade around here. Put in classic/retro games along with the newer ones and bring back a buttload of pinball machines it would probably make a cool hangout.

Pinball is hard to come by in this town. Here are some:

Silver Eagle: World Poker Tour
Bowl-a-Vard: Family Guy
Pooles: NONE
East Towne Cinema: Sopranos
Cardinal Alehouse (in Columbus): Creature of the Black Lagoon
Plaza: NONE
Dream Lanes: NONE
Ale Asylum: NONE
Murphy's Pub: NONE
Jade Monkey: NONE

Mostly Eastside joints, but now you know...

A friend of mine bought the Soul Calibur II machine that was formerly in the Namco arcade.

I can't see spending money in there any time soon unless they magically get a Street Fighter IV machine before it comes to consoles next year.

This list is 9 months old now, but here's what I gathered for pinball machines in Madison:
- Alt 'N Bach's
- Bowl-A-Vard: 2121 E Spring Dr (East town)
- Ideal Bar, 1968 Atwood Ave (at Winnebago)
- Mickey's (usually unplugged, maybe gone now)
- Point Cinema
- Wilson's Bar, 2144 Atwood (at Eastwood)
- Memorial Union
- Crystal Corner Bar
- Pitcher's Pub (Rimrock)
- 10 Pin Alley (Fitchburg)
- Prairie Lanes (Sun Prairie, off Main)
- Club Tavern
- Middleton Sports Bowl
- JT Whitney's

The one at Mickey's is sadly gone, since it's now a restaurant donchaknow and and entertainment like that would only detract from the eating experience. Darts are gone too, that pool table can't have long to live...

It's a sad day when even in Japan, arcades are closing.
