Google Chrome!

Postby rrnate » Thu Feb 19, 2009 10:04 am

So, I after being forced to upgrade to Firefox 3 (3.0.6 actually) I became disillusioned with it's slowness and overall instability so I asked around and was advised to try out Google Chrome - turns out that I love it. My experience so far is that it's fast, stable, safe, etc.

Has anyone else tried it out much yet on here?

Tried it for a while and it was ok, but not feature rich enough to make me want to dump FF.

Yeah, for me it's the lack of features I'm liking - I like the overall simplicity of it.

I used it and loved it for a few weeks this month, now it has inexplicably stopped loading any pages. Back to Safari.

I just upgraded to Lynx 2.8.7 and have never been happier.

3.5 seems to be measurably faster than 3.0, so maybe give it a shot again.

Yeah, I too tried Google Chrome for a while but could not adjust to it. Currently using Opera and Firefox.

I didn't really dig Chrome for Windows when it first came out, so didn't look at it again.
But since Chrome for Linux finally was released, I have to say I love it. It loads almost instantly, does everything I need in a browser and uses less than half the resources that Firefox does.
You do have to tweak it a bit (flash plugin support has to be set up manually for example) but it is then just perfect for my needs.

Ken...

Lynx has its uses, but here's a link to something that's supposed to give similar benefits right in your regular browser:

http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/

It's said to be an option that can render internet pages as nothing but text, with no pictures or ads or anything. No guarantees from me yet, but I'm gonna give it a try over the weekend.
