My Oscar shame...

Postby TheBookPolice » Wed Feb 21, 2007 10:16 am

My usual Academy Awards routine is a party with friends wherein we all do a sort of cinematic wang-measuring and compare how many of the nominated films we've seen. While I may or may not hit the same party this year, I have a secret shame I'm loath to reveal to my friends.

I haven't seen a single nominated film this year.

The last movie I saw in theaters was Batman Begins. Prior to that....lord only knows. I just can't prioritize getting to the movie theater anymore, both for cost and time reasons. If the dogs could come along, maybe....

Anyway! This is where you come in, and you get to be the movie trailer guy.

"If you only see one Oscar-nominated movie in the five days before the Awards, make sure it's _______ !"

I am in the same boat as you. Until they come out on Netflix I really don't see new movies. Everyone I know that saw The Departed liked it, same with Pan's Labyrinth.

But seriously, THIS is the movie for you.

Crap, I've only seen The Departed and The Prestige. Saw both in the theater and really liked them. The only one of the others I'll make an effort to see before Oscar night is An Inconvenient Truth.

I used to make a good-faith effort to see all the Best Picture nominees.

But hey, why should I take it more seriously than most members of the Academy do?

A vote for Pan's Labyrinth here. Not because I think it will win anything, necessarily, (I don't even know what it's nominated for), but it blew me away.

Oscar

Oscar ans other awards are still a mystery to me.

I simply do not understand the criteria behind selecting movies
