Yeah that movie looks as craptacular as "Hotel for Dogs." Sad thing is the mallcop movie got a B in Entertainment Weekly...sometimes I think the distributors of some of the films they review are owned by their parent company. No way.

drinkinblackcoffee - when was the last time you were at Sundance? I ask because I've been twice in the past week to see movies also playing at Marcus theaters. The place was jam-packed both times. I actually came to this thread to complain about it. Going to Sundance to avoid crowded theaters is not a good plan. I hadn't been there for 3-4 months prior to these movies, but last time it was nowhere near as bad as this. Something has changed there.

They have undertaken some completely moronic business practice at Sundance it seems wherein all movies seem to start within 15 minutes of each other and they don't add adequate additional staff to compensate. This means ridiculously long lines at the kiosk, ticket counter, concession stand, and even ticket tearer. I got there 20-25 minutes prior to the movie both times already with tickets in hand, and was only able to get to my seat just in time to see most (not all) of the previews.

The concession stand appears to take 15 minutes or more now. Ticket tearer is a bit faster, but only if there are two people working the ticket line.

If they don't fix this constant clusterfuck, then I will have to stop going there because it takes away half of the enjoyment of being there in the first place - being able to relax and take your time to enjoy things.

Also, and this is more of a minor complaint, they don't seem to have matinees with no "service fees" anymore, so now matinees are always at least $8.

Yeah, when its busy, that concession line is a clusterfuck. I've not had any problems with ticket tearers though.

They still have matinees with no service fee. They seem to have cut back on weekday screenings, but the 1pm showings are $6.50 (Monday-Thursday) and I think the 10am showings on weekends might be also.

I just checked on their site. None of the saturday or sunday shows of any movie I saw was free of the fee. It was at least $1 and usually $1.50 or more.

On weekdays, the earliest showing does have no fee though. Good to know. Thanks.

Guess I haven't been there for the crowds, I'm bummed as this was my plan for seeing Watchmen on the opening weekend.
I've also heard from a few people outside of the forum that they tend to start all movies near the same time adding to the clusterfuck problem you guys have noticed.
Since I've been a kid, its always been standard issue to sneak food into the movies. The compounding proble with getting stuff from the counter at Sundance is there is one line with rotating staff - v- multiple one-staffed lines model incorporated at other theaters. I prefer the multiple line model as it affords me the opportunity to look not only for the shortest line, but also get into the line of the staff that looks like it has the closest thing to a complete set of chromosones available.

With my love of mob flicks and Italy, I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this film. Any idea if Sundance plans on screening it?

Saw WINTER OF FROZEN DREAMS at Sundance the other night and I doubt I'll ever be back again. They showed it stretched out so everyone was squished, as if it were Cinemascope instead of 1.78:1 digital video. Ridiculous. I complained to the manager and was told a lame tale about how it was on a DVD and this was the best they could do. Very rude, and totally unwatchable. Just to add to the insult of the overpriced ticket, the crowd kept talking through the movie.

Avoid.

Lol. This from their site:

What kind of movies play at the Sundance Cinemas?
We play the finest art, independent, world and documentary film available. A screen is programmed alongside a calendar affording more esoteric movie choices, as well. We also play quality selections from major distributors.

W/respect to people talking....it gets worse all the time. Not to sound like an old fogie, but rude people with no social skills raise rude people with no social skills who raise....there are just more than there used to be. Combine that with little or no deterrence...ugh.

I used to go to far more movies than I do now. Of course movies suck more now too. I can't remember a time when there was a summer block of movies for which I was less excited. There's not one release that gets me jazzed.

Anyway, moviegoers are a bigger pain in the ass than they used to be. I have found that when I tell someone to shut the fuck up, they usually do. Sometimes they don't though. And sometimes I don't want to police the joint, esp if there are multiple talkers. Just gets easier to stay home and hit the Netflix. Well, it did before they screwed everyone on Blu-ray at any rate.
