The only thing here I can relate to is cleanliness and maintenance. They need to hear about that.

Going to a movie and buying the overpriced shit they sell is about as dumb as taking out a payday loan. I take in whatever food/liquid I want, and that way I can complain to myself if I didn't like it.

I loved the popcorn pricing. Small: $5.00. Medium: $5.10. Large: $5.25. Mega: $6.00. (Approximately, but that's how close the prices were.)

I got an email back from someone at Star, by the way. They said, in a nutshell, "oops, sorry about that".

Don't feel bad.

My roomie and I once sent a complaint in to a national fried chicken place. We actually got a phone call — from a guy who made Jeff Spiccoli sound like an intellectual.

I have a different complaint... the theaters themselves are getting worse and worse. When we saw Star Trek there, there was a major but extremely easy to fix error with the projection - basically they had both the movie projector on and the stupid advertising projector on. Transformers' preview was overlaid with Public Enemies. It took them the entire length of the previews to fix this. And yes, several people complained as soon as it started happening. Apparently no one has heard of a power button??

Then during the movie itself, there were several audio and visual hiccups that lasted several seconds.

I decided to give them a second chance and saw Up there for some reason. It wasn't as bad as the above but there were still issues.

At this point, I'd rather go to Eastgate than Star, and that's quite an insult in my opinion.

First time I've ever read that sentence in a non-gay porn context.

But I agree - best thread ever.

Violet, you're the first person to ever hijack your own thread only to have it hijacked by four other people.

So, how was the movie? You liked it? I thought it looked kind of iffy and was going to wait for the DVD, but you could talk me into it.

It isn't iffy and you should go see it. The special effects are spectacular - and by that I mean you hardly notice them at all.

Well, except for all the exploding...

It is true sci-fi. It has muddy social commentary (the best kind, in my opinion), a little humor here and there, mostly understated but powerful special effects, and a few great action scenes round out a very good movie.

By no means perfect - it looks like a film with 10x its budget, and it was about equal parts funny and exciting and pulled at the heart strings just enough. A great balance, and a great time.

I recommend it.

pj-
I would echo beer moon's review. If you see it on the small screen, it's kind of a waste...the plot isn't really anything new, but it stays interesting. The special effects are great...for me it was the complex and realistic depiction of the grit, dirt, deprivation and chaos of slum life that made it mesmerizing. Without giving away too much, I thought the choice of location for the story was a great choice too. A whole lot of parallels to reality there.

TAsunder-
Agreed. Star is the new Eastgate.

Anyone hear anything about a nice new theater being built somewhere on the east side? I thought I heard something about that awhile back.

I saw D9 in a theater that would make Star looks like Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Stepping out of the unsettling alien slum into an unsettling human slum felt like a good way to cap off the night really...

Seriously, the last 3 movies I saw at Star were IMAX, and I didn't see anything wrong there.

The IMAX theater at Star is usually good, but I don't go there for the regular screens anymore. There's been too many problems with cleanliness and general picture quality that I'd rather go to the movie at Point even though it's a longer drive. But I've never had problems with the IMAX so they seem to be taking better care of that theater.

I've only gone there for the IMAX before too and haven't had any problems there. Maybe it's only the rest of the place that's becoming a dump.
