New Recruits/Motorz/Goat Radio/Arkoffs Fri. 12/16 High Noon

LAST BAND STANDING II
The New Recruits, The Motorz, Goat Radio, The Arkoffs
Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, 10 pm
High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington Ave., 268-1122
$5 (free with current college ID)

If you werenââ?¬â?¢t there for last yearââ?¬â?¢s LBS, well ââ?¬ÂŠ you missed it. Debauchery. Bar tabs above and beyond the call of duty. Staggering. Abandoned equipment. Sudden attacks on and by crowd members. And lots of ââ?¬Å?I donââ?¬â?¢t remember that,ââ?¬? for weeks afterwards. This time around, itââ?¬â?¢s on a Friday night, so thereââ?¬â?¢s no reason not to be there as these four brave bands tie one on again.

The New Recruits are the greatest band you've never heard and the best thing to happen to rock 'n' roll since Jim Morrison got into the bathtub. You'll love them, and if youââ?¬â?¢re lucky, they may love you back. They sound like all your favorite bands as far as you know. Last year they were the ââ?¬Å?winnersââ?¬? of LBS due to their excessive bar tab, which wiped out all four bandsââ?¬â?¢ door money and quite a bit of $$ beyond that. If you donââ?¬â?¢t already have their Cancer Records debut, Attila Sex Shock, get thee to a nunnery.

Self-declared winners of last year's HBS (Handsomest Band Standing), The Motorz are back on this year's bill to pretty up the night. But don't let those non-threatening good looks fool you - they will set your womanly loins on fire with rock'n'roll. Hot on the heels of 2004's Three Chords And A Cloud Of Dust, they are gearing up to record their 2nd full-length album. The Motorz plan on using their signature high-flying lucha-libre style to win the LBS title for 2005.

It says in the good book that sheep go to heaven and goats go to hell. What it doesn't mention is that goats also have an affinity for searing guitars, thumping beats and lyrics from another time and place at least, Goat Radio does. Chumbawumba. The band is made up of four veterans of the Madison music scene, most recently members of The Randy Cliffs and Sin City Injectors. Their travels have taken them to locales throughout the U.S. and Canada, but they have yet to visit Hades. Chumbawumba.

The Arkoffs used to be another band and now theyââ?¬â?¢re this band, but itââ?¬â?¢s the same old shit for the most part. Thereââ?¬â?¢s just a couple new faces torturing amplifiers and drums willy-nilly. There will also be some new ââ?¬Å?tunesââ?¬? at this show, and maybe even some copies of their CD ââ?¬Å?Half-Assââ?¬? available, if the bandââ?¬â?¢s illicit CD source comes through. Tom Laskin of Isthmus says, ââ?¬Å?they provide a healthy, fuck-all antidote to the legions of callow indie acts that view the underground as a road to stardom.ââ?¬? IN YOUR FACE, CALLOW INDIE ACTS!

I know you think Last Band Standing has a nice ring to it, but I think it's false advertising.

Here's how it should be:
1) At the beginning of the round, every member of every band does a shot.
2) every member of every band is then served a beer, which must be finished by the end of the round, with a round consisting of each band playing one song.
3) The winner is the band that can play a song after all three other bands can no longer even take the stage.

I think this should be an OuttaToons promotion.

It wouldn't work.
There'd be no time to drink, as our songs are mostly 30-60 seconds long!

Your list of rules says nothing about time. It just means you would have to drink a shot and beer every 30-60 seconds.

Right.
If we did it, the show would be over in about 3œ minutes.
Who'd pay to see that?

Since Shinky is in two of those bands does that mean he has to drink twice as much?
Oh wait, never mind...

You know, really I've always thought of it as a contest between the bands and the audience. At the end of the night we compare the total bar sales vs. the band's bar tab. By the way, the bands killed it last year, Bob wasn't kidding, we played, got paid, and paid twice as much back to Cathy at the end of the night (Shink I'm looking at you!).

Maybe since its a friday this year the audience will have half a chance to win.
