Free Address Labels

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

What do you do when an organization sends you address labels and wants a donation?

Send a donation, of course! They make me feel obligated since they gave me free adress labels!

Use the labels, but send no donation, why waste them?

Send no donation, and throw out the labels, I'd feel guilty using them since I did not donate.

Free Address Labels

When an organization wants a donation, and sends you those free return address labels, how many of you use the labels, but do not send a donation? Do you feel guilty about it?

No.

I think I have close to a lifetime supply, so I throw out the real tacky ones.

If I didn't ask for or purchase them, then I'm under no obligation. Screw 'em.

Here I thought the UW sent me these because I just made a donation over the phone. I wondered why it had a donation sheet inside it, since I had just donated.

Anyway, clearly I would have chosen a response that says "Depends on the organization", becuase there are some I would give money to without actually directly benefitting from because I think they do good for our society and culture.

Obviously the UW falls into that category.

Since not one of these organizations has ever managed to spell my name correctly, they go in the trash. Shame too, cause I hate writing out my return address. But no, I would never let that guilt me into contributing. Why would I send money to an organization that will just use it to make more address labels? Stop the circle of abuse.

If they are reasonably tasteful and my name is spelled correctly I use them.

I think it's a weird practice, but if the organization is smart enough to put their message on them(diversity, cure breast cancer, etc), at least they are getting some visibility. If they just have ugly flowers on them, then I don't understand the purpose.

Complimentary address labels fall under the same category as surveys that come with a dollar bill in them. A dollar was never a negotiated amount for my time and my time is worth more than that, so why would that be assumed "payment".

I consider them gifts.

I got mine yesterday. You can still be special.

I get tons of the things because I have relatives that request charitable donations for gifts, so for the past few years I've been a small font of money around Christmas. I use the (non-tacky, as pointed out above) labels without guilt even though I think only one set of 'em has come from an organization I've actually given money to.

Since I'm still winding my way through higher education, in the past 10 years I haven't lived in any one spot for more than 2 years, so many are thrown away. Guess I'll have to hurry on those UW ones since I don't know where I'll be come August.
