"Resort"?

Based on the picture, it looks like they expect you to venture out into the sun to get there.

Not gonna happen.

I was hoping they'd have a preview of the new Sony and Nintendo Systems at the very least, and maybe some xbox stuff too.

All I see is repeated references to Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, pinball and Atari 2600.

If I wanted to check such antiquated machines I'd just as soon go to a garage sale or a flea market.

The convention directors might want to re-think their strategy on this one.

It's the Midwest Gaming Classic, hence a classic gaming convention, hence classic games. I'm sorry if that is a concept too obscure for you to understand.
Just an FYI, conventions with not yet released games/game consoles are generally not open to the public.

Hahahahahaha. Don't worry Beer Moon, the actual convention is indoors!

Hmm, where to start on this? For one, typically when something is referred to as "such and such classic" it just denotes that it's an event, not usually related to anything old. The World Baseball Classic was a baseball tournament, not a bunch of fogeys playing baseball. Could it have been that much harder to call it the Classic Gaming Convention?

Also, if they're having a classic gaming conference, why focus on such lame platforms like the Dreamcast and Jaguar? I mean, why not just call it the "also-ran gaming classic" and throw in the Neo-Geo and TurboGrafx16? Having a classic gaming conference and not highlighting the NES and Genesis just seems silly.

But I digress, I do like the video games, especially the old ones. Have fun in Cooney, MadMind!

First off, the Dreamcast was not lame and was abandoned prematurely, but you're right, I had the same question about The Jaguar... why?
Well according to http://www.midwestgamingclassic.com/content.php?id=past The first event associated with the Midwest Gaming Classic was Atari Jaguar Festival 2K1: Beyond Tempest or "Jagfest" as the event is known amongst enthusiasts was the first event held by the current Midwest Gaming Classic Organizers.
Yeah, I don't get it either. How anyone could rally around The Jaguar is beyond me. I can somewhat understand the Dreamcast because apparently it is quite mod-able and some have utilized it to emulate other consoles and to create homebrew games on it.

I never could get past that silly Dreamcast controller. The games are crazy cheap at PrePlayed, though. Is a used Dreamcast and a few games worth the $$? Does any 3rd party company make controllers that arent so cantankerous?

Pinball tourney sounds interesting.

We have had a few meetings at the Olympia. It's nice and about a 50 minute drive from Madsion.

I stopped in for the last few hours of the event.
It was fun.

You can even purchase a DVD of the event, courtesy of 8-bit classics.

Sound cool, might try to go on Sunday. Halo 3 beta will be over and I'll be weak on other games so I'll be an easy mark on multiplayer
