Dodger, you're not doing a very Artful job of hiding the fact that you're an insider. So stop littering our town with your shit.

When I win the 2012 Presidential Election, I plan on going all Turkmenbashi (in more ways than one!) and add a thirteenth month to the calendar. I think I'll call it "nevermember". Then I can plan something great for 13/13/13.

777

Postby MadFae » Thu Mar 08, 2007 10:56 am

Well, we noticed the whole 777 phenomenon while watching Adult Swim about a week ago. There was a semi-subliminal flash of the web site. Now it's airing spots on other cable television channels. So whatever it is, there's money involved. They can get their ads on national cable channels. Interesting.

I know, let's ask sheppy!
sheppy knows everything!

The first night game at Wrigley Field took place on 8/8/88, but was rained out after 3 innings.

oh you beat me to it - I instantly thought of that game when I read Sugar's post. Were you there too? ...good times...

Unfortunately, I could not get tickets.*

phew! :D (one revenge list down, only 27 more to go...) My dad and I had standing room only. Sorry you couldn't get in.

do you have charter? locals can buy ads on charter cable, so its also possible it was a local ad, and its not national.

I think I figured it out- For real

Postby habari » Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:46 pm

I had an epiphany while reading the thread about the Genesis reunion.

If you Google Map "777 University Ave" that would put you smack dab in the middle of the condo-mall going up at the old University Square site. So that's my guess.

I'd like to thank Peter Gabriel, Johnny Winter, and Veronica Mars.

If that's the case, they sure are starting early. I think that site won't be open for business until 2009.

On the March 7th ad posted on their website one of the subliminal messages says "Welcome Bruno".
What the hell is that supposed to mean?

That would be the 777ers giving a nod to my boy Bruno, who is hard at work bustin' they chops on the Internet.

Bruno, previously in this thread, wrote:Their installation of WordPress is up to date, nothing fun in the source code, nothing revealing in the ActionScript that's inside the swf counter.

They registered through GoDaddy on Feb. 1 with their whois info hidden, as noted above, and using on Media Temple's Grid-Server plan for hosting, using VerticalResponse for their list management, and a Panasonic DMC-LZ2 and a Nikon Coolpix 5600 for their photos, all of which appear to have been shot between 11am-3pm on March 1 (including the pic where they say they swapped out hand stamps over the weekend).

No favicon, no robots.txt, and the link to their stencil pdf is busted. Can't find it hiding in any other standard WordPress directories either.

It seems to be a very basic site which unfortunately doesn't offer too many more opportunities for digging around. I could probably divine a profile of who the people are working on this, but I still just want to find a specific ad firm name or product name, damnit. If they were cool, they would've at least left a few tantalizing easter eggs for people to find. Boo-urns.

But when they slip up, I'll be ready :)

If that's true, then it's pretty amusing. Regardless of what it's all about, you have to give credit for the unique entertainment value the "mystery" provides.

I wonder if they have a budget for peeling off all those stickers left on businesses, atms, windows, newspaper boxes, and more?

Heh. I hadn't really paid attention to any of this for a few days, you know, that whole trying to work and have a life thing, plus my Quicktime codecs were all screwed up until today, so I didn't see this 'til now.

I'm officially amused :)

God scammit

Postby Leoburt » Wed Mar 14, 2007 2:52 pm

 I hate viral marketing and "guerrilla" marketing in general. It's an insult to my intelligence. This "seventology" business takes it a step further, however, since it's a viral campaign NOT for a soft drink, NOT for a fashion retailer, or wireless provider, or any non-durable young-and-hip item. It's for real estate. More overpriced housing on the Isthmus. Did they really think that would work? It makes no sense, must have cost a fortune, and GOD how annoying. Can the developer be sued for vandalism because of all the stickers and stencils all over everything? I sure as hell hope so. Take the fine out of their tax-incremental financing. Goddamn yuppie slumlords.

Eh? Got any proof? We're all waiting to learn whom we can skewer officially on this nonsense, and if you've got something, you gotta share.
