looking for local retro looking hotel room for photo session

Postby noirguy » Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:48 pm

anybody know of a madison or madison area hotel that looks retro? we are looking to do some photography in a hotel or motel room that looks like it's stuck in a time warp. we so far are only finding standard 2008 boring style or something that is stuck in 1984. we are looking for something that looks older than that. something that might not be out of place in a 40s-50s movie. it may be too much to ask but wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

Never been there, but I think the hotel above Essen House might be what you're looking for. I've seen photos and seen the prices on the rooms.

The Spence, mayflower, kings inn, highlander. I haven't been in any of those but they seem like your best chance. Go out Rimrock to hwy mm (I think?) turn left and there's an old motel up on the hill on the left. The Dells is full of 50's era motels.

A short-drive from Madison could be worth the trek to the DonQ Inn in Dodgeville.

I did a shoot a few years back at the Spence on E. Washington. The general manager (sorry, I don't remember his name) was super cool about it.

I snapped a few shots of the outside of his building for his time.

McGovern's in Sun Prairie might be worth check out.
