Creeping Charlie, anyone know how to get rid of it?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

(Seriously, where does that name come from? I can't find anything, and I've never heard of the term "creeping Charlie" before. I've got a suspicion...)

Charlie didn't get much USO. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast. His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat. He had only two ways home: death, or victory.Image

You people must never listen to Larry Meillor's show on WPR. From now until the snow flies (yesterday?), every other freakin' show will be about creeping charlie.

The consensus, last I tuned in: you might be able to make some headway by pulling it if you're dedicated, but it's probably better just to make peace with it.

Ortho Weed-B-Gone Max DOESN'T WORK. Charlie just turns a little yellow around the edges and then laughs it off. Admit defeat and welcome Charlie into you family of lawn plants.

Yeah, it's a battle you won't win. Just periodically yank it out if it bothers you that much. Or you could just look at it...it's actually quite pretty. Little lavender flowers, pretty round leaves. It doesn't need mowing, and keeps down soil erosion. It grows where grass won't. Or you could try to poison the heck out of it and win a battle, and lose eco points. But you won't win the war with Charlie.

Bingo! You took the words out of my mouth, Duc.

Here's what years of WPR listening taught me:
The chemical approach is most effective when Creeping Charlie is blooming (late spring) or after frost in the fall. Both times, the plant is in a weakened state. (I guessing putting out flowers is hard work.)

Oh, and that will only knock it back.

My neighbors probably aren't happy about my strategy, but I follow Sno's advice. Pull it from the garden, leave it in the lawn. It's just as nice looking as grass, and doesn't need to be mowed.

We had a really bad creeping charlie problem in out yard. Here is a picture my wife took of me after I snapped and decided to find the final solution for those little buggers.

I then tilled the top soil, had it hauled away, irradiated, shifted and boiled and hauled back and topped off with sod. The little fuckers came back in two weeks. You. Can. Not. Win.

You can always take up beer making-I believe it was originally imported as hops...but the only way to remove it is pulling it all out

This drought has killed off just about all the creeping charlie in my lawn. Imagine that! That which sprays, granules, and Monsanto agri-ceuticals couldn't accomplish, old man mother nature could!

The old farmer who lived next door when I was a kid said it was a sign of an acid soil. He called it Creeping Jenny instead of Charlie but it was the same plant.

Finally something we agree on!

This is our Breakfest at Tiffanys.

Well I say what about creeping Charlie/Jenny...

Yeapers, that is how ya get er done. Not easy, not pretty, big pain in the ass, you will probably have to squirt some herbicide on the boundaries, and in the end you wonder if it was worth fighting for that monoculture that you like to think extends from your living room.

Creeping charlie is supposedly edible.

How in good conscience can anyone pull it up when there are people starving?
