Agreed with these. All of Groundhog Day and a small part of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles were filmed in my hometown. Watching Groundhog Day is like going home and visiting family (and even seeing some people I know who had bit parts) - I cannot pass it up.

Expanding on the point about DVD's above, I'm narrowing this down to movies I only watch on TV. Even if do own the DVD, or simply have never purchased it because TNT/TBS are such dependable sources, I only watch these by chance.

Shawshank
Coming to America
Tombstone (Costner or Russell version)
Green Mile - a King theme here?
In the Line of Fire
Groundhog Day

Great topic - Interesting in that there are a lot of movies I love, that I can easily turn off when on TV. For example, Raising Arizona, which may be my fave comedy ever, I can turn off any time. But I find myself unable to turn off:

Once Upon A Time in the West (favorite drama)
The Right Stuff
October Sky
Karate Kid
Napoleon Dynamite

Also agree with these that were listed by others:

Roadhouse
Breaking Away
The Fugitive
I, Robot
Shawshank
Green Mile

Lemme have it too.

Also:
Shawshank
Glengarry Glen Ross
(my two favorite movies. Oddly, not a prominent female character in either.)

Tequila sunrise
Streets of fire
Parenthood
Bronx tale
Rounders
Short cuts
