If that's what he was attempting.

Making a point of posting a warning against "insulting or combative" posts? Here? It was obvious what would happen.

I think maybe this post was intended as a piece of flypaper. If so, it's worked real well. The buzzing is deafening.

Chuck (the persona, not the guy behind it, whom I'm sure is perfectly affable) was good for a few laughs, but never really added a whole lot of signal through all that noise. He was quite adept at fashioning insults, but that's about all he had going for him--it's not like the guy had interesting insights about anything, a la <snoqueen>, or <marvell>. (When <harrissimo> is your biggest cheerleader, something is very wrong).

Then, after 10,000+ posts, which is some kind of totally fucked up thing that had us all wondering what the hell he did for a living (Lisa Simpson: "Dad, do you even have a job?") he floundered about for months in an excruciatingly drawn-out "retirement."

And yet, he might have recovered, as the truth grew dim.

But now look: he's gone and cocked the whole thing up again.

Maybe a self-styled sophisticate like yourself couldn't see Chuck's insights, but I did, and he had a lot more to offer this forum than 95% of those posting here- yourself (and myself) included.

And no, I'm not a friend of Chuck's. I wouldn't know him if he showed up at my doorstep in a shortsleeve white shirt and black nametag that read "Brother Schick." But I'd trade the current pissbucket full of posters for a week's worth of Schick without a second thought.

Does any one else think this thread is breeding more contempt than it is destroying?

Maybe that was the point? Makes it a lot easier to dole out the bans if the ban-worthy all post their ban-worthy posts in one thread.

I haven't seen anyone come close to weaving well-worded smackdowns with as much bitter deliciousness as Chuck had.
Give it up rookies. Schick is Favre to your flaccid Flaccos.

One of my fav quotes from A Christmas Story:
[Ralphie narrating] He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay.

If his post today was any indication of his prowess, color me unimpressed. So the guy can use alliteration, big f'n deal.

But they don't write me checks anymore.
