Twitter much?

Postby jjoyce » Fri Oct 03, 2008 2:28 pm

I think I asked this awhile back and got not very far, but how many people are using Twitter?

I set up an account months ago, have done almost nothing with it, yet I still get people signing up to "follow" me.

I thought about it, but was forever turned off of Twitter by the dipwad who rented out the Orpheum marquee sign so he could blast Radiohead and used a projector on the outside wall of the Overture center to project himself typing random letters into Twitter during the Film Festival.

I Twitter sporadically. (Sounds like a medical condition.)

I find it most useful to update from my phone. Places I've Twittered from: concerts, road trips, the dentist's chair, a first date, a golf cart.

I like me some twitter. I have it set up to populate my Facebook status line, which makes sense, as the only thing about Facebook that ever interested me very much was the status line.

If people you don't know suddenly start following your relatively idle account, Jason, it's probably a form of twitter spam. They just want you to reciprocate by following them, so you might end up looking at updates to their blog, etc.

See, that's it. There are some obvious spammers, but the Cap Times is in there, too. They publish a feed with headlines and links to stories. I talked about that practice with some other alt-weekly web guys and we all kinda shrugged our shoulders over the whole thing? Do people read stories on their phones?

We have a mobile site (tdp.vrvm.com) that publishes event listings, movie times and restaurants. I think mobile media works really well for those kinds of tools. Reading about the Sienkowski brothers? Maybe not.

I don't read all the captimes stories, but I do like having the headlines. if a TDP feed showed up, I'd subscribe.

I should note, I don't get text message updates, I only follow on the web or on my mobile browser. I'm pretty atypical, having unlimited data and using my phone religiously.

Thanks for that. We were all playing nice in this thread until you poppped in. Why is it you accuse Obama supporters of being hateful, when you lobbed an insult in a thread that had nothing to do with you?

I have an account, and now and then I look at the Cap Times' twitters on line. On the whole though I think it is too minimalist. If I want to read what the Cap Times says (or Isthmus, or anybody else) I can go to their web page and spend five or ten minutes reading a whole article. I don't want bits and pieces pixelling across my phone. Maybe I just don't have a nice enough phone.

It might be fun knowing what five or ten friends are doing every minute of the day, but I can't think of who I'd invite. The people I know seem to actually have lives, and would never keep up with the twitter thing for long. Maybe Twitter will be mostly for teen agers as it develops.

The twitter spam happened to me too. I got a bunch of "followers" trying to invite me to their porn pages, but somebody in Twitter seemed to be watching for them. Pretty soon Heidi, Tanya, and Kim got their accounts suspended.

It was a JOKE! I do not believe for a minute this is the first time you've been called a tool. Not only are Obama supporters rude, vile and insulting, they have absolutely no sense of humor neither. This thread does have something to do with me. I twitter too....and I'm boycotting everything to do with LEE Ent ('cept trading their stock and/or options).

More hot chicks! I have never gotten spam on my Twitter, including the latest bug to go 'round. But I've always been spam-lucky.

And there's @fringefoods too.
