I took a tour of Oscar's a couple decades ago with a group of teachers. We saw the hot dog line in operation. One teacher I know swore off hot dogs for good. I stopped eating them for at least a week or two.

Right. That's why you shouldn't eat Oscar Meyer weiners (or their equivalents.)
But those craptubes have nothing to do with a good Kosher(-style) beef hot dog, like the kind you get in a true Chicago dog (which should always be Vienna brand.) Those are made from essentially the same cut of beef as brisket, and they're delicious.

I've never sold an Oscar Meyer product, and never will. Like many other foods, there are differences in quality.

Whatever that dog stand next to the Plaza is, I know why they went out of business. Last time I went in there, the entire staff was playing guitar hero, and were very slow to quit and get behind the counter. They were so stoned they had no idea how to work the POS. They charged my friend for two hot dogs when she ordered one, and when they couldn't figure out how to refund her, they told her to come back the next day. Right... Anyway, after that debacle, they had no idea how to cook the hot dogs and fries. In the end, it took forever, they were cold, they had no idea how to work there, and I would never go back there, even drunk.

Reason #5,213 why The Daily Page should archive this shit; I'm sure I've told this story at least once, but here goes:

I went to the UW for one semester - the spring semester of 1991. Over spring break my brother (who was in Law School at the time) and I went up to Green Bay, where our parents were still living, and did some maintenance work for Packerland Solar Systems.

A little recent American history is in order here: that stinking hippie Jimmy Carter, gone mad from some tainted alfalfa sprouts no doubt, decided to lard the US business tax code with various incentives to encourage businesses to invest in alternate energy. Which helps explain why the world's largest commercial solar hot water heating facility was (and for all I know still is) attached to the Packerland Meat Packing plant in Green Bay.

My brother and I spent the week replacing the insulation and jacketing on the hot water pipes going into and out of the plant. We were spared any interaction with the actual killing floor ("It's not really a floor, Jimmy - more of a grate"), but one night we were working after hours in the machinery control room. I'm standing at the top of a step ladder, holding up the jacketing while my brother applied some glue to keep it in place; idly, my eyes start scanning the various labels affixed to the control panels on the wall. Suddenly my attention is caught; right across from me is a control panel with the simple yet unspeakably horrifying label 'Bung Hole Auger.'

Not sure if I can trust my eyes, I poke my brother; point to the panel.

He looks; pales visibly.

'Bung Hole Auger' - what to get the guy who has everything.

I have great respect for the hot dog eaters among us - they do a great and noble service by making sure no part of a butchered animal goes unconsumed.

The grandma of a friend from home worked at a Campbell's Soup plant where they made, among other things, the chicken noodle soup, for which they slaughtered their own chickens. Anyway, the particular job of the grandma in question was to "cut the assholes out of chickens". The procedure was pretty much "stick your finger in, and cut around it", or so I was told. I guess I am glad someone does it.
