This shit has got to stop.

This shit has got to stop.

Rock Band/Guitar Hero stage monitors:

We might as all just throw our actual instruments and gear in a landfill. The future of music is apparently console based.

Just wait 'til the in-orifice personal monitors go on sale. You'll need 3.

Sounds great provided they are to monitor strings and not buttons. In a way don't we already have that? Say you're a drummer. You wear in-ears and sit on a Kicker. With just a little super glue and a dildo you could have a nice 2.1 orifice setup.

I'm going go go out on a limb and say that all of this game console rock star BS is actually going to be *good* for music in the long run.

Why? Because I'm thinking that those kids that used to pick up real instruments primarily in order to pretend to be stars and impress their friends (only to never really learn their instrument and end up forming shitty bands) are now able to get their fix with their Wii, leaving the real music making and composition to those that appreciate music for what it is.

Of course, Rock Hero Band Guitar wasn't around when the world was blessed with Creed, and doesn't seem to have stopped their reunion, so I'm probably completely off-base here.
...
Ugh... never should have wiki'd Creed:
Also, a live Creed DVD was filmed in Houston on September 25, 2009 where a total of 239 cameras was used to capture the live performance. This feat entered Creed in the Guinness World Records for the largest amount of cameras used at a live music event. The last person to hold that record was Justin Timberlake, who broke the record using 47.

I've started working on scales lately for the first time in a long time. I always learn a lot about music when I really focus on scales.

My brain must be fried. It looks like a standard computer/console speaker with RCA inputs to me. The only thing that seems to make it Rock Band / Guitar Hero is the marketing on the page.

Read the letters that form words and sentences that Altec uses to "describe" the product.

Back when I took bass lessons, one of my teachers asked me to learn how to play scales in different positions - missionary, piledriver, etc. He also taught me how to play a rusty trombone.

Music lessons were very helpful. I wouldn't be the slow-handed hack I am today without 'em. After the patterns become second nature to your fingers, it frees up space in your mind to learn other stuff like arrangements, lyrics, TIVO programming, etc.

You mean like Red, Blue, Orange, Green, Red again, Yellow? Is that Dorian or Mixolydian?

I did, thus the point about marketing. Perhaps you missed that part while attempting to read the letters that form words and sentences in my post?

You're right. I should have quoted these words to make fun of you instead:

It looks like a standard computer/console speaker with RCA inputs to me.

I have never seen computer speakers shaped like stage monitors. And what exactly is a console speaker?

There are a lot of speakers marketed as speakers for console systems. I don't know why anyone would buy them, but they exist. I can google it for you if it will help.

There's nothing about this product that makes it particularly useful for a Rock Band player. It does look slightly different but it offers no additional functionality from every other speaker they could buy.

You should be more worried about the "make your own song" "feature" in Guitar Hero. Or all those inane apps for the iPhone that are over-simplified instruments where you can "share" your "songs" with everyone. A speaker with no useful functionality that happens to look like a monitor is hardly going to signal the end of music as we know it.

I can't be the only person bothered by this. All over this country there are mom and pop music stores closing their doors.
