Mosi mosies on

This is pretty sad: the guy with the coolest name in professional sports history is dead.

Patriots mourn passing of Mosi Tatupu

Besides providing the writers of The Simpsons fodder for cheap jokes, my man Manu was also one hell of a football player. 54 is too young to poop out, Mr. Tatupu!

Who's next? Manu Tuiasosopo?

Mosi passed his awesome last name and a pretty good first name on to his kid, the none-too-shabby linebacker Lofa Tatupu.

Lots of good names in the NFL these days. Troy Polamalu, Chike Okeafor, Ifianyi Ohalete, Craphonso Thorpe. Plus, Ndamukong Suh this coming season post-draft.

The more former NFLers that die too young, the more shameful the NFL's pension and health care program for retirees is exposed to be. Lofa's had a number of concussions already; let's hope he fares better than his father (cause of death undetermined) did.

Mosi was one of my all-time favorite Patriots; it feels like I lost a bit of my childhood today. I can't believe he was 54...feeling pretty old today.

Unfortunately, my most vivid memory of him was fumbling a ball against the Broncos(1984?), helping Denver to another shady victory. Back then, it seemed like the Patriots always played Denver on the road, and the Broncos always got the best of us. A friend of mine at the time was a HUGE Bronco fan, and I can still hear his voice ribbing me with the replay: Handoff to the sure-handed Mosi Tatupu....he fumbles....Dennis Smith recovers it....he could go all the way!

RIP to a special-teams maven and fan favorite.

In my opinion, the all-time best name in sports belongs to former Providence College b-ball stand out God Shammgod.

I thought that would be your least favorite name.

Not to mention the fact that you share the same alma mater.
