Did LA's mayor say the right things?

Postby HOMOsapien » Thu Jul 22, 2010 4:49 pm

I was shocked that the mayor of LA, a city that really... really... really... needs transportation choice for a number of reasons, said what he said after being cut-off due to another's sloppy driving skills.

Maybe what he said was the right thing to say, politically, in a city where almost everyone drives because they literally have no choice. If it was the right thing to say, what does that really mean about the state of individual transportation choice?

Sounds as if the cabbie was at fault. A friend of mine got seriously injured on the Square last year when a driver from Iowa (insert joke here) pulled in front of him without checking. His flourescent safety vest didn't help.

I can't imagine Mayor Dave letting a Madison cabbie off the hook so easily.

"He was really concerned when he realised it was me." Sheesh. No Shite Sherlock.

Most people would be concerned if they ran over the mayor. Concerned for their own ass, that is.

The implication is that he wouldn't have given a damn if was some no-name shmuck he knocked over.

Developing a bike culture in L.A.? Good luck with that.

This happened July 17. The article states "a parked cab abruptly pulled out across a bike lane, causing him to shatter an elbow," and then quotes the mayor: "The Police Department may end up citing him, it's not something I'm involved in."

Oooookay. It's been a month, it appears to be an uncontested fact that the cab pulled into the bike lane and gave the mayor 8 screws in his elbow, and the police have yet to issue a citation.

Huh.
