Why Isn't Local News in HD?

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

On the radio side, WERN and WORT have HD broadcasts. I think it's going slowly because it's not a great time to convince people they need new radios/TVs/whatever.

Maybe they're broadcasting over the air that way, but your cable or sat. provider doesn't deliver it in HD unless you pay them more. I keep a bunny ears attached to my set so I can watch da Packers in HD without having to pay Dish another $5 a month. I think Dish actually has to put another platter up on your roof in order to get signal from the bird that carries it. Screw that.

It is Charter.
I really don't watch too much of anything on CBS.

On a related note, I find the new cast of Channel 27's morning show fascinating. That chick's voice throws me. And the Roland killer feels like a Roland killer.

"HD Radio" should not be confused with High Definition. In the context of radio, HD is merely a brand with no real connection to "HD" as it's used in television.

When TV goes with HD, they need to hire pro makeup artists.

If no one else is going to ask the obvious question, I will:

What possible reason would there be to feel it necessary to see local news in HD?

Leigh Mills used to be hot. That would be a good reason.

But that was several years ago.

It's always funny watching Charlie Shortino's facial reactions to Christine Bellport though. That alone is reason enough to watch in HD. Plus seeing the puffiness in their faces for being up so early is funny too.

The big reason for the want of local news in HD; because one gets used to it. At least on a larger screen, going from HD to non-HD programming is pretty ugly.

OK, I thought he was just asking about news in general.

HD radio is not exactly a brand, it's more like a different way of dividing up the bandwidth so more stations can eventually exist.

But HDTV is way out of my league -- I don't have a TV at all because just about everything I want is on the internet. Sorry for being irrelevant if the question was limited to TV.

It actually sounds like everything you want IS on TV, but you'd rather do yourself a disservice and watch it on the internet instead.

I know a few people who are the same way. Boggles the mind.

Just curious, what's the last movie you saw in the theater?

In what sense is watching a show on a computer "doing yourself a disservice?" Especially if you don't have HD? When a digital broadcast breaks up with an antenna, it becomes unwatchable (and unlistenable.) The Internet also doesn't waste my time with nearly non-stop commercials. And little is more irritating than popping in a DVD, getting 3/4 of the way through an episode of something and then having the disc skip or freeze up. That has never happened to me on Hulu or Netflix-on-Demand.

What boggles my mind is that people are so snotty about their picture quality that they're literally unable to enjoy a sitcom on anything but the very best. Are the jokes less funny?
