Carbon monoxide detectors required now

Postby Beaver » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:09 am

Besides the new smoke alarm law, we are now required to have Carbon monoxide detectors. Sounds like a good law.

Carbon monoxide detectors required for every home under new state law

"Effective Feb. 1, Wisconsin became the 24th state to mandate installation of carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. The law requires a carbon monoxide alarm on each level of all one- and two-family residences having any fuel burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage."

Damn big government bureaucrats can't tell me not to die in my home when it's easily preventable. Lets just see them try to install one of these secret liberal mind control devices in my house.

Yep -- when it comes down to "less government" versus "money for big business" the money wins every time.

You can get the detectors at Menards, so you know Walker won't be touching that law any time soon.

I've had a carbon monoxide detector in my basement for years, which is where it belongs. I have no gas appliances on the main floor of my house, so if a CO problem occurs, that's where it's going to be detected. I pretty much resent having to buy an unnecessary one.

Also, due to this ingenious new law, I now have four fire alarms within about eight feet of each other on the first floor. I hope I'm killed in the fire, because if/when those fuckers all go off at once the entire family will driven stark raving mad from the cacophony.

This is what I hate about one-size-fits-all legislation. I can follow a flowchart, fer chrissakes. Why assume we're all too stupid to interpret a more nuanced regulation with a handful of if/then guidelines for compliance? Thanks stupid people for yet again dragging us all down to your level.

Same here, except I have three within six feet. Maybe Menards' lobbyist wrote the law.

I don't like it.
More of the gov. invading my life telling me how to live it.

What they really should do is criminalize carbon monoxide instead.
That would make more of a difference instead of making us buy detectors.
So it's OK to keep poison around?

And how the heck are they going to enforce this law?
Send cops to every residence?

Nope but if you try to build a new home or sell your current one you're gonna have to pony up. I think the 2 I bought a month ago cost 12 bucks each.
