What are the things that puzzle, enrage, delight and tickle you as you go about your life in Madison?

Windy weather

Postby Shorty » Sun Apr 17, 2011 9:27 am

Forth day in a row of strong gusts. I don't recall ever having that many days in a row of strong wind.

Are you from around here? It's not the norm, but it's happened. It is much more typical of March however.

Blows or sucks? Which reminds me of a joke.

Why do trees on the Wisconsin-Illinois border bend south?

Illinois is looking better every day. Gov Quinn is moving them in the right direction. Plus it's warmer there. I like Sen Durbin, too.

Democratic senator wants Internet sales taxes

"A Democratic senator is preparing to introduce legislation that aims to end the golden era of tax-free Internet shopping. The proposal--expected to be made public soon after Tax Day--would rewrite the ground rules for Internet and mail order sales by eliminating the ability of Americans to shop at Web sites like Amazon.com and Overstock.com without paying state sales taxes. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the second most senior Senate Democrat, will introduce the bill after the Easter recess, a Democratic aide told CNET."

back to the topic at hand: yes, it was pretty windy around here.
More than normal? hard to quantify.

Record tornadoes the other day, but not here in Madison.
April 10 2011 will go down as the biggest daily April tornado outbreak (in terms of total tornadoes) in Wisconsin history. The other big April tornado outbreak was on April 27 1984, when 10 tornadoes occurred, of which 6 were considered at least strong.

We complained too much about the wind, so now they sent an inch and a half of sleet.

It's like dealing with Scott Walker.

I think we were spoiled by last year's spring, which was the most awesome I can remember. It seems like this year we're running about 3 weeks behind schedule in terms of weather.

If you think yesterday was depressing for April 19, May 10, 1990 was even worse. Snow in May is Hell as far as I'm concerned.

I was walking to the bus yesterday at 4pm and the sleet was pouring down so hard I thought it may hit my head and kill me if I didn't have an umbrella. Almost went inside to be safe even if I would miss my bus. Next time that happens I will. I hope that was Winter's finale.

Yesterday was the first time in my life I've witnessed sleet, snow, rain, thunder and hail all happening at the same time. Impressive; in a psychotic kind of way.
