going up?.....gas prices, that is...

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

YEAH! The larger the engine, the lower the limit.

That's a lovely little daydream. :-)

Hell, yeah. And speeding fines are based on mass:

kinetic energy = ½mv²

So where n is a specified base rate for fines and v is the
actual rate of speed less the speed limit,

Total Fine = n x ( ½(1362) * v²)

So, at ten miles over @ the base rate of $.0025 per mile over

For a 3000 pound car, that's

$.0025 x ( ½(1361Kg) x 100 ) ) = $170.13

Or @ 2000 pounds:
$.0025 x ( ½(907Kg) x 100 ) ) = $113.38

Let's see here... 10 miles over, 3000 pounds... that'll be $160. Yeah. 20 bucks a cylinder. What? A six banger? Jeez I could have sworn that was eight. Congratulations sir, your fine is reduced to $140.

$399.9 on Atwood tonight.

If that doesn't make people slow down, nothing will.

I doubt it. That is, until the end-user is no longer doing the driving. If my train arrives ten minutes late at it's destination, at least I will have had time to do homework or catch up on work e-mails.

I think he should pay for it with bicycle licensing and use taxes, install odometers on bicycles and tax them .03 cents per mile. The fuel used to peddle a bicycle does have an impact on society. Can you imagine, based on supply demand models, what the cost of a banana would be if half of the population commuted to work daily on their bicycles?
I can hear it now..... I need to float to work, bananas are now $4.00 each. My body uses 2 bananas/day to get to work! That is $40 a week plus this new fart filter I have to wear in my undies is uncomfortable!
Remeber when we only had to change the oil filter in the cars every 3000 miles, this dang fart filter (to save the planet) I have to change every trip as it fills with other contaminents much faster

Usually I try to ignore such posts as attempts at humor or childish misconception, but this shit is just annoying.

I thought it might be a Blaska sock puppet trying to make himself look good by comparison, but I don't think he's got the chops to write in that style consistently.

But it does make Blaska look good by comparison. :-)

Here in the SF Bay Area, people are getting excited that gas prices are going down! They are starting threads on fora about it. They quote the lowest price they have seen recently. The lowest to date - $4.17 a gallon. Consider yourself lucky if you think $3.99 is high.

$3.69/gallon today at the Fish Hatch stations. Not sure that anything much came of the hearings on Capitol Hill, but perhaps something was going on behind closed doors that we didn't hear about. $.40/gallon drop in about a week.

I think it's mainly due to an overheated market, recent increases in margin requirements by exchanges and the strengthening of the dollar. There's already evidence that speculators are backing off(George Soros is pulling out of the gold and silver markets, not sure about oil), which have been a major contributor to the recent increase in oil prices.

May have been? That's what it's about every single time. Gas is high because of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act which made supply and demand take a back seat to Wall St. gambling.

Where did I say "may?" Was "major contributor" not strong enough?
