Tony Mandarich

Postby Shorty » Fri Apr 29, 2011 2:00 pm

Remember Packer bust Tony Mandarich? He now owns a photography and Internet consulting company in Arizona.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdo ... nfl-wp1133

"Tony Mandarich has been called everything from "the incredible bulk" to "the incredible bust" and anything in between over the last 25 years, but there's one thing you never thought you'd hear the controversial former NFL offensive lineman described as: Model photographer. That's what you'll find the second overall pick of the 1989 NFL draft doing now in Scottsdale, Ariz., as he now runs the Mandarich Models photography studio that specializes in fitness, glamour and boudoir..."

I used the ass-end of an NFL shop gift certificate last year to make a Mandrich T-Shirt.

Good on him. He isn't the all time greatest bust. He had productive years once he cleaned up.

The Packers could have drafted Barry Sanders instead. That was worth at least one Super Bowl.

Cam Newton might make everyone forget Mandarich.

They could have had Sanders and Favre on the same team for 8 seasons from 1992 when Favre started until 1998 when Sanders retired...if they could have afforded them both.

Jamarcus Russell already took care of that.

OK, how about this: Cam Newton might make everyone forget JaMarcus Russell.

Speaking of quarterbacks, if the best pick of the draft is defined as the one that makes you the most happy, then hands down the Vikings picking Christian Ponder with the 12th overall pick qualifies. Nice going Vikings! They're on the way to taking over the NFC North cellar from the Lions for quite some time.

Well, I have no first person insight into either Russell or Newton, but from what I've been able to read, Newton at least appears willing to put in the work necessary to transition his game to the next level. I guess we'll see if this is really so, or just a mirage.

I'm with you entirely on Christian Ponder, however. I can't imagine using a #12 pick on a guy who was not even considered a first round talent. Again, time will tell, but I suspect the LA Vikings will regret not trading down. . . .

And don't forget Robert "So, I run 6 yards and turn left or was it right? Uh, I don't know." Ferguson over Chris Chambers.

Granted, Chambers did drop that pass in the end zone against Michigan because the sun got in his eyes or some shit, but still. He was at least smart enough to run a damn curl route....

Good thing John Clay didn't risk injury by coming back for his last year at UW. I mean think of all that undrafted free agent money he won't be getting until there is a labor agreement.

I feel kind of bad for the kid. Too much other talent in the Badger backfield so he feels like there's no room for him to grow there. Can't catch, so it is unlikely he will catch on with any NFL team on any sort of long-term basis. No college degree. Sucks.
