Where can I find Compost bins?

I know I missed the Big Sale at the Coliseum. Is there any place in town that stocks them??

Get three decent sized wooden pallets and six cheap pound-in fenceposts. Arrange the palets in a C-shape supported by the fenceposts.

Something like this except they screwed 'em together and I think that makes a weaker structure. More support if you pound in fenceposts behind the pallet, in my own humble opinion.

Throw in garbage.

Turn with pitchfork every now and then.

If you feel like spending a hundred bucks or so, Ace on Willy's had some last I looked.

Even lower-tech and super effective, have been using it for years:

Purchase black garbage can with lid. The relatively thin-sided $10 ones at Family Dollar are perfect. Obtain approximately 12" of rope. With a phillips screwdriver, punch one hole each in edge of lid and in top edge of can. Thread rope through both holes and knot at each end; this is so the lid doesn't blow away. Take same screwdriver and punch holes at regular intervals all over can and can bottom. Place container on rocks to allow for drainage. You can place a plastic tray under the rocks, if you desire compost tea. Just mix the leaking compost fluid from the tray with water, and water your plants with it.

You can either dump it all once a year into your garden, or you can use it on an ongoing basis. Just cut a little door in the bottom portion of one side, and scoop out the good stuff from the bottom.

I made a nice big one out of 8 pallets a few years ago. 6 as walls and 2 on top for a roof. I used the pound in metal fence posts and put hinges on one end for a door. I also lined it with chicken wire on the inside to keep out the rodents. I like the big size for leaves, grass clippings, weeds, etc.

You can get free pallets from Schoepp's Ice Cream plant parking lot / loading dock area (near Atwood / Division St.).

Why not?

Composting is easy, cuts down on garbage, and can produce free dirt.

Why not?

It's taken me 4 years to teach the wife what to put in the recycling bin and thats still a mess. The composter seems like another job for me. Our yard is over grown with plants. Some good some bad. I don't need/want to fertilize in fact I'd rather kill large chunks of it off and start over.
