Middleton Police taser man waving machete in park

This happened Sunday, June 26, in Middleton's Pheasant Branch park. I love walking and biking in that park. It seems so quiet and safe, I wouldn't expect to see this.

"Middleton police said they arrested a man who was brandishing a machete and threatening passers-by Sunday in the Middleton Pheasant Branch Nature Conservancy. Middleton police said officers responded at about 4:30 p.m. to a report of a man threatening people with a machete on the path north of the 6600 block of Century Avenue in the conservancy. Police said the man reportedly told one woman that he would cut off her head...

Police said the man was identified as Alan C. Malcheske, 30, a local homeless person. Police said he was intoxicated. Malcheske was booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct while armed and failure to comply with officers' attempts to be taken into custody."

Wow. That is a very strange story. Not too far from where I live either. Was the man walking the white dog ever found? What is a homeless guy doing with a machete anyway? Is it supposed to be for defense? Hopefully the machete man will get some help in addition to jail time.

I would just point out that one's machete needs do not somehow magically evaporate at the point of homelessness.

In fact, I imagine the opposite would be the case.

If he's got a right to carry a gun, doesn't he have a right to carry a machete?

A broadsword is cooler, though. Throwing stars are cooler yet.
