Green Cab

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

Green Cab

Postby Dulouz » Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:56 pm

The owners (Schmidtt's Towing) say they want to "expand" the cab driving market. Will riding in a Prius change you habits in transportation? What about you bike commuters? Are you willing to take a cab home instead of biking in the rain?

Union Cab is trying a Prius now, and if it works out, they'll buy more...

Union now has 6 Prius cabs and intends to add ten more this year which will make them the largest hybrid cab company in Madison (as well as the first).

It says a lot for the reliability of the Prius that cab companies are adding them to the fleet.

The bus is still an option and it is tons cheaper than a cab.
Prius is not a 100% electric car. It still can burn gas and belches out pollution.

Prius doesn't belch pollution, it hiccups.

I ride my bike all over town. I've been caught in the rain, a snowstorm, or out late inebriated a few times in the past year and called Green Cab. It was no problem to put my bike on the cab. I take the bus with my bike sometimes too, but buses don't run all night and they don't run all the way across town without a transfer. Sometimes the extra money for the convenience of a cab is worth it.

Joe, do you own a Prius? What about smug emissions?

Chatter on campus is that the Prius cabs are cool, but when kids need a ride they will take first available safe ride...
