Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout

I'm one of the many unfortunate that did not score any... Got an extra one you'd sell me? Haha, funny I know.. But seriously.

Also, if you got one, how did you score and from where? Chaos?

For those who, like me, responded with a "Wait--what?":

Canadian Breakfast Stout is an Imperial Stout brewed with a blend of coffees and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup.

I hadn't heard about this one- I wonder what the addition of the maple did for their already-delicious breakfast stout.

BTW, I absolutely love their slogan for Breakfast Stout:
You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

Have a drink at the Echo (don't know if they have the Breakfast Stout). A placard with that witticism has been hanging on the walls for years.

Steve's in Fitchburg has apparently been flooded with calls today (mine included), all seeking CBS. Their six bottles are long gone, as are their other locations'.

Sounds like a "soft opening" in order to built some buzz. Maybe more later?

I assume CBS has a goodly price point/profit margin.

I've already heard of bottles selling for $60. Ridiculous.

Though I never had thought of bourbon maple syrup before...time to head to the kitchen via the liquor cabinet. Pancakes will never be the same.

I have a skip in my culinary vinyl when it comes to bourbon. If it's sweet, and I want to add booze, I go bourbon every single time. Unless there are tropical ingredients (coconut, bananas)--then it's rum.

See: peaches, pecans, caramel, maple, apple...

This conversation is unfair at 1pm on a weekday.

Has anyone tried their KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout)? Aged in bourbon barrels sans maple.

Half of a four-pack left in my fridge; it's terrific.

[EDIT: I was only half paying attention when I wrote this; I was referring to the regular old Founders Breakfast Stout, not the KBS. I have yet to try either K or CBS.]

So, um, yeah. This stuff is great.
Founders had a tasting event on Monday night (Canadian Thanksgiving) at the Glass Nickel on Atwood. They brought CBS, Harvest Ale and Blushing Monk.
Wow. Just...wow.

I've really been enjoying their "Backwoods Bastard" lately. It's just rich and chocolatey and delicious. The only problem is that at 10.5% it can also become a "Get reacquainted with your bathmat." beer - just like Victory's Golden Monkey.
