When Walker first took office, he immediately pushed through hundreds of millions in corporate tax breaks, supposedly to help create jobs. Where are those jobs?

According to this study, they won't be coming.

newspaper analysis raises questions about how effective tax credits are in prompting Wisconsin businesses to hire.

Gannett Wisconsin Media examined state data over the past five years. It found that 40 percent of Wisconsin businesses that completed tax-credit programs tied to job creation failed to hire as many people as they expected.

A Wausau Daily Herald report said 9 of 15 businesses in that period met the hiring goal. And of the 191 other businesses still active in the program, just 8 percent created the required number of jobs to earn the credits.

Some business owners say hiring decisions depend on more than short-term tax benefits.

(from the article)

What a surprise.

Walker promised to deliver some 250,000 jobs to Wisconsin. That turns out to 171 jobs per day. Right now, that works out to 41,040 jobs. Where are the jobs, Mr. Governor ?

You can look up state-level job data at the BLS, and population data at the census bureau. Since Walker took office, Wisconsin has added a grand total of 3,500 jobs. However, during the same period its population has increased by about 25,000 persons.

That's a pretty abysmal job record. For comparison, your next-door neighbors in Minnesota added 31,000 jobs during the same period.

Walker promised to create a quarter million jobs in Wisconsin, yet the GOP playbook says that government doesn't/can't create jobs. I guess they have all their bases covered.

How do you save a major employer from fleeing the city and state and taking their 470 full-time positions with them?

By bribing them, of course.

The corporate owner of Rayovac and Remington brands will get a $4,000,000 award from the state of Wisconsin to maintain their headquarters in Madison.

The article doesn't say, but I'd really like to know the alternatives Spectrum was considering and why.

Would be nice if real people had that ability. Give me $40,000 or I'm moving to IL.

Wisconsin loses jobs for fifth straight month
Wisconsin lost 11,700 private sector jobs in November, according to data released Thursday that indicates a fifth straight month of decline and another worrisome development for Gov. Scott Walker as he faces the possibility of a recall election next year.

Walker ran on the promise that by the end of his four-year term the state would have 250,000 more jobs than when he took office. Based on the latest figures released by the state Department of Workforce Development, only 16,300 private sector jobs have been created since January.

It's only getting worse:
Walker's budget cuts are costing state private jobs, report warns.

The report from the Institute for Wisconsin's Future says the reduction in take-home pay for tens of thousands of public employees is now hurting the private sector, as are the drastic state budget cuts for K-12 education.
...

Wisconsin has lost jobs over the past five months while many other states have seen an increase in job creation.

"You can't blame the national economy," says Norman in a statement. "If Wisconsin had simply matched the national rate of job creation since April, nearly 34,000 more families would have a breadwinner with a full-time job rather than losing 34,000 jobs."

From today's channel3000.com:
Walker Has Hard Time Living Up To Jobs Pledge

Little progress has been made on Gov. Scott Walker's promise to create 250,000 jobs over four years.

Now, the pledge touted during last year's campaign could become a significant hurdle as the Republican faces a potential recall election next year.

Walker spoke frequently about his promise after taking office, but distanced himself in recent months. He now talks more about building a better environment to create jobs and how the state's future is tied to a national economy beyond his control.

Walker promised that some 250,000 jobs would be created during his administration, as a result of his administration's policies. He has been in office for roughly one year. That works out to approximately 62,244 new job openings. Where are these jobs, Mr. Governor ?

Judging from the energy surrounding the recall effort, it looks as though many folks have been having voter's remorse. Rejecting the money for the extension and reintroduction of train service through Madison is looking worse & worse for Walker every day.

He promised to create 250,000 in four years. Pretty sure he didn't know that he may only have 1 year to make good on the promise considering he was elected for a four year term. You can't hold him accountable for the number if you recall him.

Pretty sure no one will care if we recall him. This thread is about his progress so far on that campaign promise. He's got a lot of ground to make up.
