My main peeve about winter? Icy streets and sidewalks mean I have to wear sensible footwear and put snow tires on my car which significantly cuts down on both of our handling and performance. Plus I am hopeless at winter sports. I do like a cosy fire, a cashmere sweater and a hot toddy tho. And sitting in the hot tub while snow flakes fall on your face is lovely.

Clearly, gargantua and narcoleptish should move south for the winter, and I should move to Houghton/Hancock.

(Did they really have 105 inches of snow in Houghton in January 2004?)

I didn't mind the snow until I had to start shoveling a long driveway. I really, really hate shoveling.

I went to Michigan Tech (Houghton) my first year of college. '92-'93. I don't know about 105 inches in Jan. '04 (it wouldn't surprise me), but they got at least a half of a foot of snow in Oct. when I was there.

And I just looked it up. 105.5" in January 2004. 8.2" in Oct. 1992.

That's nearly nine feet of snow in a single month!

I am green (er, white) with lake-effect envy.

I'm with Joycie. Busse's Midway and the Oscar Mayer plant look so much more festive with a coating of snow.

I closed on my house (my first) about Dec 1st 2007, and almost immediately began shoveling snow seemingly every other day. Bought my first snowblower roughly 1 month later.

Okay, now it can snow. I finally have all the essentials ( food, alcohol, wood, hay) to survive a big storm.
