The gun thread

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

The gun thread

Postby jjoyce » Sun May 06, 2012 12:12 pm

Fair warning: On Monday morning, all gun talk will be moved to this thread and the others will be locked. I really don't think there's any need for multiple gun threads at the same time.

This forum is not about guns. In the grand scheme of issues affecting the lives of people living around Madison, guns is a very small one. Based on looking at this board, it's a very big issue, but only to a small group of people who have a lot of time to post.

Fine with me, and I know I'm one of the perpetrators. Still, we got you a lot of clicks.

If they'd hand down some more indictments in the John Doe investigation, forum sanity would be restored instantaneously. Until then, we're just keeping the engines warm.

Unsurprisingly, Dangerousman missed the point of my thread completely, so there's no reason for me to continue. And since his thread is limited to defeating a strawman argument, and he refuses to discuss anything but that strawman argument, his thread has no reason for existing either. So thanks, jjoyce. Maybe I can get some work done now.

Only true for certain values of "1".

Nope, no approximate about it! It is exactly equal as I typed it. I just noticed, as Wagstaff did, that you changed the problem a bit.

This silly bit of math has led to thousands upon thousands of pages of heated discussion in various fora around the intratubes. I figured it is tailor-made for my fellow forons.

Shooting targets featuring Trayvon Martin's hooded sweatshirt were sold on a gun auction site "to make money off the controversy," the unidentified seller told Orlando TV station WKMG.

The paper targets do not show Trayvon's face but include a box of Skittles and a beverage, which the 17-year-old bought before being shot and killed in February during a confrontation with George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla.

Two unidentified Florida gun dealers bought some targets, the seller said in an email exchange. "I sold out in 2 days," the seller wrote, without revealing the quantity.

The full sad story here.

Is this forum about politics? I think there are too many threads about politics. Can we reduce that to a single thread as well? Based on voter turn out, no one cares except those with too much time on their hands. I think you should censor and ban every post that annoys you.

Does VPO even give a doody about the forum? Let Joyce handle it? "Heck of a job Brownie!" To the death, indeed.
