R.I.P. Jon Lord

If it's news, but not politics, then it goes here.

I remember the May 9, 1973 Deep Purple Concert at the Dane Co. Coliseum -- the next day we learned that outside the doors the police tear gassed 400 pissed people who had been sold fake tickets.

I saw Deep Purple when I was stationed in San Diego, 1968. They opened during Cream's farewell tour. Ian Gillan's mike went out halfway through their set. He then threw it down in disgust and stormed off the stage. Since I was there to see Cream, I didn't mind.

Ian joined the band in '69, but considering it was the 60's fuzzy memory is understandable.

OK, whomever was singing lead did that. I wasn't up on the band membership.

Clapton, Bruce and Baker I knew.

Lyrics were so much more meaningful back in those days.
